Bone‐Inspired Recyclable Composites for Damage‐Tolerant Circular Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bone‐inspired architected composites are developed by combining osteon‐like reinforcements with a recyclable Elium thermoplastic matrix. The hierarchical architecture redirects cracks and promotes energy dissipation, while enabling recovery of intact, aligned, load‐bearing reinforcement units that retain their original stiffness, revealing a route ...

Engineered Nanotopography to Modulate Growth and Signaling of Neuronal Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the interaction between neurons and nanoscale topographies on engineered substrates. Neurons cultured on nanowires, nanopillars and nanoneedles exhibit enhanced neurite outgrowth, form more organized neuronal circuits, and display improved synaptic connectivity, compared to flat substrates.

Load Distributing Metamaterials Via Discrete Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mechanical metamaterials are computationally optimized to homogenize transmitted forces by minimizing the spread of reaction forces. The resulting architectures transform localized loading into broader, more uniform force distributions and experimentally demonstrate robust load spreading under quasi‐static and impact loading.

Exchange‐Coupled Two‐Dimensional MOFs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene mediates ferromagnetic coupling between two‐dimensional metal‐organic frameworks and cobalt. Fe‐tetracyanobenzene develops a remanent magnetic response whose orientation follows the cobalt magnetization direction and persists up to room temperature, whereas Ni‐TCNB remains only field‐polarized.

Bulk‐Like Spin Cycloid and Fast Switching in Freestanding BiFeO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Freestanding BiFeO3 membranes overcome substrate‐induced constraints by simultaneously restoring the intrinsic bulk‐like spin cycloid and enabling ≈50% faster ferroelectric switching than substrate‐clamped epitaxial thin films. This combination of robust noncollinear antiferromagnetic order and efficient electric‐field switching establishes ...

Cross-Border Mergers and Acquisitions

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2007
Abstract The internal market legislation has triggered a significant increase in cross-border over the last decade. Between 1998 and 2003 there were about 135 merger and acquisition transactions in the EU electricity and gas sector, of which about one-third was cross-border and two-thirds had a national dimension.

Unlocking the Value of Cross-Border Mergers and Acquisitions [PDF]

open access: possibleSSRN Electronic Journal, 2008
Most FDI takes place between the developed countries, which suggests that the market-seeking motive is important for understanding FDI. However, given the stylized fact that trade barriers (e.g. transportation costs and financial barriers) have declined over the past 20 years, models that aim to explain market-seeking FDI tend to predict a decline in ...
