Removing Homocoupling Defects in Alkoxy/Alkyl‐PBTTT Enhances Polymer:Fullerene Co‐Crystal Formation and Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
PBTTT‐OR‐R, a C14‐alkoxy/alkyl‐PBTTT polymer derivative, is of substantial interest for optoelectronics due to its specific fullerene intercalation behavior and enhanced charge‐transfer absorption. Comparing this polymer with (S) and without (O) homocoupling defects reveals that PBTTT‐OR‐R(O) forms stable co‐crystals with PC61BM, while PBTTT‐OR‐R(S ...

Precision 4D Printing of Multifunctional Olive Oil‐Based Acrylate Photo‐resin for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 13, March 25, 2025.
This work offers an olive oil‐based acrylate photoresin for solvent‐free, precision 4D printing of sustainable polymers. The physicochemical properties of the printed materials can be fine‐tuned by incorporation of a diluent cum comonomer acrylic acid. The resulting polymers exhibit mechanical properties similar to soft collagenous bone.

Virus‐Assembled Biofunctional Microarrays with Hierarchical 3D Nano‐Reticular Network

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 14, April 3, 2025.
Virus‐assembled microdots with a wrinkled pattern induced by the high‐pressure carbon dioxide method show a morphology similar to sunflowers. Abstract Three‐dimensional (3D) hierarchical wrinkled materials built with biological entities have so far remained exclusive to nature.

Direct Ink Writing of Conductive Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines the use of direct ink writing (DIW) for fabricating conductive hydrogels with customizable 3D structures. It outlines the rheological requirements for successful DIW, followed by an exploration of the materials and ink formulations used to impart electronic and/or ionic conductivity to hydrogels while maintaining printability ...

Recent Advances in Enzyme‐based Biofuel Cells Using Glucose Fuel: Achieving High Power Output and Enhanced Operational Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 16, April 18, 2025.
Effective electron transfer and stable enzyme immobilization, both between enzymes and host electrodes as well as between adjacent enzymes, are crucial for optimizing the biofuel cell (BFC) performance. Recently, efforts have focused on integrating these strategies with porous host electrodes.
