Why Migrants Settle in Small Towns: Polish ‘New Immigrant Destinations’

open access: yesPopulation, Space and Place, Volume 32, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The article contributes to literature on place attachment, migration transition and migrants' motives for settling in new immigrant destinations (NIDs). It focuses on small towns of under 20,000 population. Such towns are often claimed to be unattractive to migrants.

Unmasking the Thermo‐Pollution Nexus: A Multimodal Decomposition of LST‐AOD Dynamics in a Tropical Megacity

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Rapid urbanization in tropical sub‐Saharan Africa intensifies the thermo‐pollution nexus, the interplay between land surface temperature (LST) and aerosol pollution (AOD), with implications for environmental health and sustainability. This study examines the spatiotemporal dynamics and statistical interactions between AOD and LST in the Lagos ...

Deep Learning Reconstruction of Daily Soil CO2 Efflux Reveals Biogeochemical Insights and Reduces Annual Estimate Uncertainty Despite Limitated Daily Predictability

open access: yesGlobal Biogeochemical Cycles, Volume 40, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Soil CO2 efflux is commonly measured monthly or seasonally, leaving daily dynamics poorly resolved and contributing to global estimation uncertainty. We trained a single Long Short‐Term Memory (LSTM) model to predict daily soil CO2 efflux across 82 globally distributed sites in COSORE, with 0.2%–46.9% daily data coverage from 2003 to 2020 ...

Parasports for cerebral palsy: Thinking and ‘prescribing’ beyond the Paralympics

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 68, Issue 7, Page 896-902, July 2026.
This narrative review synthesizes current evidence on parasport participation for individuals with cerebral palsy, highlighting key benefits, and providing sport‐specific adaptations that enhance accessibility of parasport. Abstract The landscape of care for individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) has evolved far beyond ‘fixing’ impairments toward a life ...

Recording Cortical Somatosensory Responses During Cross‐Country Skiing: A Feasibility and Reproducibility EEG Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 1, July 2026.
We found wireless‐EEG to be feasible to record and follow somatosensory evoked potentials during a highly dynamic naturalistic motor task, and that the cortical somatosensory processing was only minimally affected by the phase of the ongoing motor task.
