Using a Kernel Adatron for Object Classification with RCS Data
Rapid identification of object from radar cross section (RCS) signals is important for many space and military applications. This identification is a problem in pattern recognition which either neural networks or support vector machines should prove to ...

The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Casimir effect for a Bose-Einstein condensate inside a cylindrical tube
We explore Casimir effect on an interacting Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) inside a cylindrical tube. The Casimir force for the confined BEC comprises of (i) a mean-field part arising from the spatial inhomogeneity of the condensate order parameter, and (

This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

PIV study of the effect of piston position on the in-cylinder swirling flow during the scavenging process in large two-stroke marine diesel engines [PDF]
A simplified model of a low speed large two-stroke marine diesel engine cylinder is developed. The effect of piston position on the in-cylinder swirling flow during the scavenging process is studied using the stereoscopic particle image velocimetry ...

Biomimetic bluff body drag reduction by self-adaptive porous flaps [PDF]
The performances of an original passive control system based on a biomimetic approach are assessed by investigating the flow over a bluff-body. This control device consists in a couple of flaps made from the combination of a rigid plastic skeleton coated

Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Particle image velocimetry (PIV) is an experimental technique that uses microscale particles as tracers to measure the velocity of a fluid flow. In this paper, we seek to extend this technique to simultaneously measure fluid temperature as well, by ...
