Polarization phenomena in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) containing water-trees

open access: closedConference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2003
The authors report preliminary results of a polarization study using thermally stimulated discharge current (TSDC) measurements and the thermal current transient technique on XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) samples in which water trees have been grown.

Dielectric Response of Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) Cable Insulation Material to Radiation and Thermal Aging

open access: closed2018 IEEE 2nd International Conference on Dielectrics (ICD), 2018
This work seeks dielectric indicators of the aged state of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) that has been simultaneously irradiated and thermally aged. The XLPE samples studied here were of the same material formulation as XLPE insulation found in RSCC I46-0021 instrumentation cable, formed into tapes with dimensions approximately 20 × 0.7 × 100 mm3 ...

Analysis of Permittivity and Temperature Effect on Charge Accumulation within Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) via Numerical Simulation

open access: closed2021 IEEE International Conference on the Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials (ICPADM), 2021
In general, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission is primarily used for submarine applications, including to integrate offshore wind farms to land or to transmit large electrical power over long distances across the sea. Typical insulation used within HVDC cables is either Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) or Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE ...

Polarization behaviour of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE)

10th International Symposium on Electrets (ISE 10). Proceedings (Cat. No.99 CH36256), 2003
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) has low dieletric permittivity, loss factor, good dimensional stability and solvent resistance. Because of these inherent and desirable properties XLPE cables are extensively used in power distribution applications.

The effect of degree of cross-linking on accumulation of space charge in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE)

open access: closedProceedings of 2001 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials (ISEIM 2001). 2001 Asian Conference on Electrical Insulating Diagnosis (ACEID 2001). 33rd Symposium on Electrical and Electronic Insulating Materials and Applications in System, 2002
The accumulation of space charge in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) under DC stress was investigated with PWP method and TSD method. The activation energy of different peaks of TSD is obtained with split multi-peak method; the polarization of dipoles and impurities is distinguished.

Water ingress in high-voltage cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable terminations

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 2012
In Norway, there are 6000 to 7000 oil-filled high-voltage cable terminations in the transmission network, most of which are constructed following the old design shown in Figure 1. Although the number of reported failures of medium-voltage cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables and cable accessories is low, during the last few decades some severe ...
