Esophageal balloon calibration during Sigh: A physiologic, randomized, cross-over study

Journal of Critical Care, 2021
Optimal esophageal balloon filling volume (Vbest) depends on the intrathoracic pressure. During Sigh breath delivered by the ventilator machine, esophageal balloon is surrounded by elevated intrathoracic pressure that might require higher filling volume for accurate measure of tidal changes in esophageal pressure (Pes).

A Controlled Cross-over Study of Trimipramine and Amylobarbitone

British Journal of Psychiatry, 1967
Chemically, trimipramine has an imino-benzyl nucleus and a side-chain resembling that of methotrimeprazine [5-(3-dimethyl-amino-2-methyl-propyl)-10, 11-dihydrodibenz (b, f,) azepine]. In “double blind” controlled comparisons of trimipramine and imipramine, Salzmann (1965) in 27 hospitalized depressed patients who did not require ECT, found the two ...

[Cross-over studies].

Nederlands tijdschrift voor geneeskunde, 2013
Randomized, parallel group clinical trials often require large groups of patients; this is expensive and takes time. A randomized cross-over trial can be an efficient and more affordable alternative. A cross-over design can be used to study chronic disorders in which treatments have temporary effects.

Carbohydrate intake and training efficacy – a randomized cross-over study

Journal of Sports Sciences, 2017
Carbohydrate (CHO) availability during endurance exercise seems to attenuate exercise-induced perturbations of cellular homeostasis and might consequently diminish the stimulus for training adaptation. Therefore, a negative effect of CHO intake on endurance training efficacy seems plausible. This study aimed to test the influence of carbohydrate intake

Hemodialysis / hemofiltration: A report of a controlled cross-over study

The International Journal of Artificial Organs, 1980
In 14 stable ESRD patients an ABA cross-over study comparing conventional hemodialysis with post-dilution hemofiltration was performed in order to test the validity of clinical benefits reported for hemofiltration. No effect on blood-pressure could be observed in hypertensive hemofiltration patients when body weight was kept constant.

A cross-over study of side of hearing aid provision

Clinical Otolaryngology, 1986
No previous study has investigated which ear should be fitted with a hearing aid. Fifty-eight patients with bilateral hearing loss of 25-75 dB HL were sequentially fitted with an ear level hearing aid for 10 weeks in each ear. Patients were then asked their preference for side of fitting, and their reasons for this preference.
