Cross-sectional area of flexible tubes

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 1979
Kresch (1977) presented the results of calculations which determined the cross-sectional shapes assumed by flexible, elastic tubes for varying transmural pressures. Extensions of these results are presented here in the form of graphs of the cross-sectional area as a function of the transmural pressure.

Automated Measurement of Melanoma Cross-Sectional Area

The American Journal of Dermatopathology, 1998
The object of this study was to evaluate the prognostic impact of a cross-sectional area measured in routinely stained slides of cutaneous melanoma using fully automated image analysis. Hematoxylin-eosin stained slides of 238 specimens of primary cutaneous melanoma with Clark levels III to V were evaluated by digital image analysis using color video ...

The Incidence and Cross-sectional Area of the Meniscofemoral Ligament

The American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2006
Background The incidence, morphologic characteristics, and cross-sectional area of meniscofemoral ligaments of the knee are still not clarified. Hypothesis The incidence of meniscofemoral ligaments is very high, and they contribute ...

Can the ACL Cross-Sectional Area Be Predicted? Size Correlation and Proportion between the ACL Cross-Sectional Area and the Femoral Intercondylar Notch Area

The Journal of Knee Surgery, 2023
AbstractThe purpose of this study was to reveal the correlation and proportion between the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) cross-sectional area and the femoral intercondylar notch area. Sixty-three subjects (33 female and 30 male) less than 50 years old were included in this study.

Nerve cross‐sectional area in extremes of age

Muscle & Nerve, 2013
Introduction: Nerve cross‐sectional area reference values have been reported for many nerves, but there have been few studies in pediatric and geriatric populations. This study was conducted to determine the influence of age on nerve cross‐sectional area.

Influence of Muscle Cross-sectional Area in Skin Temperature

Proceedings of the International Conference on Bioimaging, 2015
The present study aimed to determine the correlations among the arm subcutaneous fat percentage (SFP), arm muscle cross-sectional area (MCSA), arm total cross-sectional area (TCSA), and the difference between core temperature and skin temperature in biceps and triceps areas, measured using thermography.

Conductance Method for the Measurement of Cross-Sectional Areas of the Aorta

Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 1999
A modified conductance method to determine the cross-sectional areas (CSAs) of arteries in piglets was evaluated in vivo. The method utilized a conductance catheter having four electrodes. Between the outer electrodes an alternating current was applied and between the inner electrodes the induced voltage difference was measured and converted into a ...

Measurement of a conductor cross sectional area

Surface Engineering and Applied Electrochemistry, 2008
An electrical method of indirect measurement of the cross sectional area of a conductor covered by a dielectric covering at casting in a suspended state is considered. The description of the method, the structural and electric equivalent schemes, and a mathematical treatment describing the essence and correctness of the method, as well as an error ...

Adsorbate cross-sectional areas

1984
Using the BET equation to determine Wm, the monolayer weight, and with reasonable estimates of the adsorbate cross-sectional area, A, the total sample surface area, St, in square meters, can be calculated from equation (4.13), $$ {S_{t}} = \frac{{{W_{m}}\bar{N}A}}{{\bar{M}}}x{10^{{ - 20}}}{m^{2}} $$ (1) with Wm in grams, \( {\bar M} \) is the

Cross-Sectional Area of Scala Tympani in Human and Cat

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1976
The cross-sectional area of scala tympani is measured in midmodiolar sections of both human and cat temporal bones (20 pairs each). The areal sizes of scala tympani in different turns of human cochlea are more than twice those in the cat. A noticeable area reduction between the lower basal turn and the upper basal turn is found in the cat.
