Growth or emission targets: What India needs to sacrifice?

open access: yesSustainable Futures
Balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability has become a critical challenge for India. As the growth drivers, Industrialization and transportation, are some major contributors to environmental degradation. As a result, this study examines

Testing Weak Cross-Sectional Dependence in Large Panels [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2012
This paper considers testing the hypothesis that errors in a panel data model are weakly cross sectionally dependent, using the exponent of cross-sectional dependence , introduced recently in Bailey, Kapetanios and Pesaran (2012). It is shown that the implicit null of the CD test depends on the relative expansion rates of N and T. When T = O , for some

Invisible but not inaccessible—Revealing transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins with solution NMR and complementary methods

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins may be ‘invisible’ to direct detection yet remain accessible to solution NMR through equilibrium‐exchange measurements and pressure‐jump experiments. Complementary methods report on mass, stoichiometry, selected distance distributions, morphology, and internal packing.

Nonparametric Rank Tests for Non-stationary Panels [PDF]

open access: yes
This study develops new rank tests for panels that include panel unit root tests as a special case. The tests are unusual in that they can accommodate very general forms of both serial and cross-sectional dependence, including cross-unit cointegration ...

The Relationship between Energy Consumption and Economic Growth: Evidence from China’s Industrial Sectors

open access: yesEnergies, 2015
In this article, the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth is examined from the viewpoint of China’s industrial sectors. Panel data from 37 industrial sectors in China covering the period from 1998 to 2010 was used in this study ...

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

The Cross Sectional Dependence Puzzle [PDF]

open access: yes
The analysis of unit roots and cointegration in panel data is becoming a growing research area. A number of issues have been raised in the literature (see Phillips and Moon 1999 and 2000, Banerjee 2000, Maddala and Wu 1999).
