Prediction of mammalian virus cross-species transmission based on host proteins
Most emerging viruses are spilled over from mammals. Understanding the mechanism of virus cross-species transmission and identifying zoonotic viruses before their emergence are critical for the prevention and control of newly emerging viruses. This study

Diversity and Genetic Characteristics of Astroviruses from Animals in Yunnan Province
Astroviruses (AstVs) are single-stranded RNA viruses, including two main genera: Mamastroviruses (MAstVs) and Avastroviruses (AAstVs). AstVs have been detected in more than 80 different mammals and birds, with the characteristics of multiple cross ...

Cross-species transmission of CWD prions [PDF]
Prions cause fatal neurodegenerative diseases in humans and animals and can be transmitted zoonotically. Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a highly transmissible prion disease of wild deer and elk that affects cervids over extensive regions of the United States and Canada. The risk of cross-species CWD transmission has been experimentally evaluated in a

Cross‐species transmission of feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV‐1) to chinchillas
Background Herpesviruses are a class of double‐stranded DNA viruses found in both vertebrates and invertebrates. They are usually highly host‐specific and do not easily spread across species.

Emergence and genomic analysis of a novel ostrich-origin GPV-related parvovirus in China
: In recent years, ostrich disease characterized by paralysis and diarrhea has been circulating in some regions of China, causing huge economic losses to the ostrich breeding industry. In our study, clinical samples from diseased ostriches were collected,

Animal morbilliviruses and their cross-species transmission potential
Like measles virus (MV), whose primary hosts are humans, non-human animal morbilliviruses use SLAM (signaling lymphocytic activation molecule) and PVRL4 (nectin-4) expressed on immune and epithelial cells, respectively, as receptors. PVRL4's amino acid sequence is highly conserved across species, while that of SLAM varies significantly.

Integrating serological and genetic data to quantify cross-species transmission: brucellosis as a case study [PDF]
Epidemiological data are often fragmented, partial, and/or ambiguous and unable to yield the desired level of understanding of infectious disease dynamics to adequately inform control measures.

Horizontal transfer of parasitic sex ratio distorters between crustacean hosts [PDF]
Parasitic sex ratio distorters were artificially transferred within and between crustacean host species in order to study the effects of parasitism on host fitness and sex determination and to investigate parasite–host specificity. Implantation of Nosema

Cross-species transmission of PERV appears unlikely [PDF]
Abstract Pig organs may offer a solution to the shortage of humandonor organs for transplantation, but concerns remain about possible cross-species transmission of porcine endogenousretrovirus (PERV). Samples were collected from 160 patients who had been treated with various living pig tissues up to 12 years earlier.
