Numerical analysis of cross-ventilation in generic isolated building configurations

open access: yes, 2015
This thesis presents a numerical analysis of cross-ventilation in generic isolated building configurations. This study focuses on understanding how cross-ventilation is affected by changing the length of the building, the number of partitions and the position of the partition opening for a generic building configuration.

THE CROSS-VENTILATED TUNNEL SMOKEHOUSE

Canadian Journal of Research, 1946
A tunnel smokehouse with an output of 3000 lb. of smoked fillets per nine hour day has been in operation about one year. The temperature, relative humidity, and smoke velocity are controlled at optimum values independent of climatic conditions. Hence the colour and shrinkage of the product may be standardized and losses from cooking and dropping of ...

COMPARTMENT FIRES: CALTREE AND CROSS-VENTILATION

Combustion Science and Technology, 2007
Abstract Various experimental studies on effect of ventilation on behaviour of fire in compartment are available in literature. Recently, experiments have been conducted to study fire behaviour in compartment with more than one ventilation opening located on opposite walls (Kumar and Naveen, 2007).

Wind-driven cross ventilation in long buildings

Building and Environment, 2014
Abstract The rule of thumb for effective wind-driven cross ventilation suggests that the building length L should be less than five times of ceiling height H . This study uses a Large Eddy Simulation model and wind tunnel experiments to investigate the mechanism behind this rule of thumb.

Wind-driven cross ventilation with internal obstacles

Energy and Buildings, 2013
Abstract Most ventilation models do not consider the influences of furniture and obstacles on building ventilation. This study developed a resistance model to calculate the ventilation rate of wind-driven cross ventilation in a low-rise building with vertical plates in the building.

Characteristics of Low-Profile Cross-Ventilated Freestalls

Sixth International Dairy Housing Conference Proceeding, 16-18 June 2007, (Minneapolis, Minnesota) (Electronic Only), 2007
The ventilation characteristics in a low-profile cross-ventilated freestall building were monitor in May and August 2006. Three different ventilation rates were evaluated in an 800 cow facility located in North Dakota. The high, medium and low ventilation rates selected were based on exchanging the air inside the building every 60, 120 and 240 seconds,

Cross-Ventilation of Underground Railway Tunnels

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1979
The aerodynamic merits and demerits of cross-ventilating adjacent tunnels in underground rapid transit systems are discussed. Three types of cross-ventilation are considered, namely (a) numerous small holes in the dividing wall between the tracks in a cut-and-cover tunnel, (b) a curtailed dividing wall and (c) passages linking separately bored tunnels.
