Efficient Hyper-Parameter Selection in Total Variation-Penalised XCT Reconstruction Using Freund and Shapire’s Hedge Approach

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
This paper studies the problem of efficiently tuning the hyper-parameters in penalised least-squares reconstruction for XCT. Discovered through the lens of the Compressed Sensing paradigm, penalisation functionals such as Total Variation types of norms ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Suspected cyanide toxicity in cattle associated with ingestion of laurel - a case report

open access: yesIrish Veterinary Journal, 2021
Background Cyanide is one of the most rapidly acting toxins affecting cattle, with poisoning typically occurring following ingestion of cyanogenic plants. Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus), is one such potentially toxic cyanogenic plant.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Time-frequency analysis of financial stress and global commodities prices: Insights from wavelet-based approaches

open access: yesCogent Economics & Finance, 2022
We examine the time-frequency lead–lag relationships and the degree of integration between the US financial stress index and global commodity prices (i.e., oil, gold, silver, and cocoa) with data covering over 47 decades (January 1975 to December 2021 ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Assessing Time Varying Interconnectedness Between Clean Energy Market and Financial Stress in USA

open access: yesAmerican Business Review
This study examined the time-varying relationship of the USA’s clean energy stock market under the financial stress scenarios. We have employed the empirical mode decomposition-wavelet windowed cross-correlation technique to gauge interconnectivity ...

Cross‐Hedging Ambiguous Exchange Rate Risk [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Futures Markets, 2016
AbstractThis paper examines the behavior of an exporting firm that sells its output to two foreign countries, only one of which has futures and options available for its currency. The firm possesses smooth ambiguity preferences and faces multiple sources of ambiguous exchange rate risk. We show that the separation theorem fails to hold in that the firm'

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.
