Network Dynamics in Elemental Assimilation and Metabolism

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
Metabolism and physiology frequently follow non-linear rhythmic patterns which are reflected in concepts of homeostasis and circadian rhythms, yet few biomarkers are studied as dynamical systems.

Plasma microRNA levels following resection of metastatic melanoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Melanoma remains the leading cause of skin cancer–related deaths. Surgical resection and adjuvant therapies can result in disease-free intervals for stage III and stage IV disease; however, recurrence is common.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Recurrence quantification analysis of spatio-temporal chaotic transient in a closed unstirred Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We analyse the transient spatio-temporal chaos that we observe in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction performed in a closed unstirred batch reactor by recurrence quantification analysis (RQA). We characterize the chaotic transient by measuring the Lyapunov

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

A Cross-Recurrence Analysis of the Pupil Size Fluctuations in Steady Scotopic Conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2019
Pupil size fluctuations during stationary scotopic conditions may convey information about the cortical state activity at rest. An important link between neuronal network state modulation and pupil fluctuations is the cholinergic and noradrenergic ...

How to avoid potential pitfalls in recurrence plot based data analysis

open access: yes, 2010
Recurrence plots and recurrence quantification analysis have become popular in the last two decades. Recurrence based methods have on the one hand a deep foundation in the theory of dynamical systems and are on the other hand powerful tools for the ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Cardio-Hypothalamic-Pituitary Coupling during Rest and in Response to Exercise

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
The objective of this study was to examine cardio hypothalamic-pituitary coupling and to better understand how the temporal relations between these systems are altered during rest and exercise conditions.

Differences between computed tomoghaphy and surgical findings in acute complicated diverticulitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Summary Background/Objective: A preoperative reliable classification system between clinical and computed tomography (CT) findings to better plan surgery in acute complicated diverticulitis (ACD) is lacking.
