The Cross-Section of Risk and Return [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2017
Abstract A common practice in the finance literature is to create characteristic portfolios by sorting on characteristics associated with average returns. We show that the resultant portfolios are likely to capture not only the priced risk associated with the characteristic but also unpriced risk.

Foam sclerotherapy versus ambulatory phlebectomy for the treatment of varicose vein tributaries: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial

open access: yesTrials, 2019
Background Ambulatory phlebectomies and foam sclerotherapy are two of the most common treatments for varicose vein tributaries. Many studies have been published on these treatments, but few comparative studies have attempted to determine their relative ...

… and the Cross-Section of Expected Returns [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Financial Studies, 2013
Hundreds of papers and hundreds of factors attempt to explain the cross-section of expected returns. Given this extensive data mining, it does not make any economic or statistical sense to use the usual significance criteria for a newly discovered factor, e.g., a t-ratio greater than 2.0. However, what hurdle should be used for current research?

Cross Sections are History [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2013
Although cross section relationships are often taken to indicate causation, and especially the important impact of economic growth on many social phenomena, they may, in fact, merely reflect historical experience, that is, similar leader-follower country patterns for variables that are causally unrelated.

Indirect measurement of the (n,γ)127Sb cross section [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2023
Sensitivity studies of the i process have identified the region around 135I as a bottleneck for the neutron capture flow. Nuclear properties such as the Maxwellian-averaged cross section (MACS) are key to constrain the uncertainties in the final ...

A new method for obtaining a Born cross section using visible cross section data from e + e − colliders

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
In this paper, we propose a new method for obtaining a Born cross section using visible cross section data. It is assumed that the initial state radiation is taken into account in a visible cross section, while in a Born cross section this effect is ...

Measurement of the b-hadron production cross section using decays to D∗ +μ −X final states in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The b-hadron production cross section is measured with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV, using 3.3 pb−1 of integrated luminosity, collected during the 2010 LHC run.
