Cross Wedge Rolling of Preforms for Crankshafts

Key Engineering Materials, 2012
To produce preforms for complex long flat parts with an unsteady mass distribution along the longitudinal axis rolling processes, like cross wedge rolling, can be used. Tools for cross wedge rolling processes can be constructed as roller or flat, both with wedges.

Multi-Wedge Cross Rolling of Balls

Journal of Iron and Steel Research International, 2013
The multi-wedge cross rolling process of forming balls is described. The process tool for rolling 8 balls with a diameter of 35 mm is presented. The course of the rolling process, distributions of forming forces as well as maps of effective strain and temperature in the obtained balls are presented by finite element modeling (FEM).

Influence of Tool Parameters on Central Deformation in Two-Wedge Two-Roll Cross-Wedge Rolling

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Since internal defects in the cross wedge rolling (CWR) process can weaken the integrity of the final product, it is necessary to investigate the influence of tool parameters (forming angle α, spreading angle β and area reduction Ψ) on central deformation of workpiece. The change law of average maximum principle stress of central point of workpiece has ...

Numerical simulation of three-rolls cross-wedge rolling of hollowed shaft

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2005
Abstract In this paper, the results of numerical calculations of the forming of hollowed shafts with the use of three-rolls cross-wedge rolling method (CWR) are presented. The research aimed at confirming possibilities of application of this method in the production of hollowed shafts.

One-way successive plate cross wedge rolling machine

Science in China Series E: Technological Sciences, 2010
In our last paper (Sci China Ser E-Tech Sci, 2009, 52(11): 3117–3121) we designed the precision forming machine with rolling plate CWR (cross wedge rolling). This kind of machine colligates the advantages of high rigidity and small floor space for roller CWR machine and those of simple die manufacture and high precision for plate CWR machine.

Predicting Critical Friction in a Two-Roll Cross Wedge Rolling Process

Journal of Tribology, 2002
Excessive interfacial slip is one of the primary failure mechanisms in the cross wedge rolling (CWR) process. In order to predict operating conditions that lead to excess interfacial slip, an analytical method is presented for determining the critical rolling condition in a two-roll CWR operation.

Finite element analysis of cross wedge rolling

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2006
Abstract On grounds of finite elements method, three-dimensional mechanical model of cross wedge rolling process has been developed. Examples of numerical simulation for strain distributions, strain rate, mean stress and rolling load components have been included.

Cross wedge rolling failure mechanisms and industrial application

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2007
Cross wedge rolling (CWR) is an innovative metal forming technology with several well-documented benefits over other traditional manufacturing processes. Over the past several years, CWR technology has obtained overwhelming popularity within the United States, especially in the automotive industry.

Finite Element Analysis of Cross-Wedge Rolling Process

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
In this study, a non‐isothermal simulation model for flat‐wedged cross‐wedge rolling (CWR) to fabricate a bullet was presented by using three‐dimensional thermo‐rigid‐plastic finite element method (FEM). Both deformation behavior and heat transfer of the process were taken into account. Based on the simulation results, the distributions of temperature,

A study of cross wedge rolling process

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1998
Abstract In this paper, a method of modelling the process of cross wedge rolling (CWR) with upsetting has been presented. The method developed is based upon a division of a forming zone into a set of layers, that are then analysed in the conditions of plane state of strain as typical rotary compressing processes.
