Estimates of genetic parameters and genetic trends for growth, reproduction, milk production and milk composition traits of Awassi sheep.

open access: yesAnimal, 2019
Genetic parameters and genetic trends for growth, reproduction, milk production and composition traits were estimated for Syrian (S) and Turkish (T) Awassi sheep and their crosses maintained at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the ...

Sensitivity of asymmetric rate-dependent critical systems to initial conditions: insights into cellular decision making [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The work reported here aims to address the effects of time-dependent parameters and stochasticity on decision-making in biological systems. We achieve this by extending previous studies that resorted to simple normal forms. Yet, we focus primarily on the

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

INHERITANCE OF HYPOCOTYL COLOUR AND PUBESCENCE IN MUNGBEAN (VIGNA RADIATA (L.) WILCZEK) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2000
The mode of inheritance of seedling color and plant pubescence was studied in two crosses among three parents, which differed for these traits. The results have revealed that purple seedling color was dominant over green seedling color and pubescence was

My Favorite Sites: Linkage of genetics and ethics: more crossing over is needed [PDF]

open access: yesBiology of the Cell, 2005
Since the development of recombinant DNA technology in the mid 1970s, there has been increasing interest in the ethical, legal, and social implications of genetics and related fields. The web sites of five different organizations (government, academic, and independent not‐for‐profit) that deal explicitly with genetics and ethics are reviewed here. Some

Organisation, sequence diversity and evolution of a disease-resistance gene cluster in coffee tree (Coffea l.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Pathogen resistance (R) genes of the NBS-LRR class (for nucleotide binding site and leucine-rich repeat) are found in all plant species and confer resistance to a diverse spectrum of pathogens.

Genetic algorithm for the pair distribution function of the electron gas

open access: yes, 2011
The pair distribution function of the electron gas is calculated using a parameterized generalization of quantum hypernetted chain approximation with the parameters being obtained by optimizing the system energy with a genetic algorithm. The functions so

Cisgenesis, a new tool for traditional plant breeding, should be exempted from the regulation on genetically modified organisms in a step by step approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Modern potato breeding requires over 100,000 seedlings per new variety. Main reasons are (1) the increasing number of traits that have to be combined in this tetraploid vegetatively propagated crop, and (2) an increasing number of traits (e.g ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
