Highly Absorbent Ultrafast Self‐Gelling Starch Microparticles for Robust Wet‐Tissue Adhesion and Instant Hemostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The aldehyde‐ and catechol‐modified starch (ACS) microparticle (MP) is developed by chemical modifications and freeze‐milling after calcium intercalation for highly absorbent and tissue‐adhesive properties. The ACS‐MP can be self‐gelled upon contact with biological fluids and blood on tissue surfaces, rapidly absorbing them and achieving robust wet ...

A Many Objective Problem Where Crossover is Provably Indispensable [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This paper addresses theory in evolutionary multiobjective optimisation (EMO) and focuses on the role of crossover operators in many-objective optimisation. The advantages of using crossover are hardly understood and rigorous runtime analyses with crossover are lagging far behind its use in practice, specifically in the case of more than two objectives.

Separating the Role of Mixing‐Entropy on the Dynamics of Glass‐Forming Liquids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This research innovates by distinguishing entropy’s impact from enthalpy in materials through micro‐alloying. It finds liquid fragility decreases with minimal alloying content or increased element diversity. This clarifies entropy’s role and supports the entropy‐driven glass transition, guiding new material design.

Electrical Sensing of Molecular Spin State Switching in a Spin Crossover Complex Using an Organic Field‐Effect Transistor

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
An organic semiconductor polymer is used to sense the spin states of transition metal complexes, in a transistor configuration. At the spin crossover, the current output changes reversibly by 70%, without apparent fatigue. Finite element analysis indicates that the current switching occurs due to the coupling of piezoresistive properties of the ...

Long‐Channel Effects in Randomly Oriented Carbon Nanotube Thin Film Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This study finds that carbon nanotube thin film transistors (CNT TFTs) display classical drift‐diffusion transport in the on‐state but exhibit an abnormal long‐channel effect (LCE) in the subthreshold region due to CNT junctions. An analytical model is developed to describe this, revealing that increased channel length worsens the subthreshold swing ...

Highly Efficient Spin‐Orbit Torque Switching in a Topological Insulator/Chromium Telluride Heterostructure with Opposite Berry Curvature

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports high spin‐torque efficiency (ΔHLJ=12.9×10−6mTA−1cm2$\frac{{{{\Delta}}{H_L}}}{J} = 12.9 \times {10^{ - 6}}{\mathrm{mT}}\;{{\mathrm{A}}^{ - 1}}{\mathrm{c}}{{\mathrm{m}}^2}$) and spin Hall conductivity (σSH=4.8×106ℏ2eΩ−1m−1${\sigma _{SH}} = 4.8 \times {10^6}\frac{\hbar }{{2e}}{{{\Omega}}^{ - 1}}{{\mathrm{m}}^{ - 1}}$), along with ...
