Synaptonemal & CO analyzer: A tool for synaptonemal complex and crossover analysis in immunofluorescence images

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2023
During the formation of ova and sperm, homologous chromosomes get physically attached through the synaptonemal complex and exchange DNA at crossover sites by a process known as meiotic recombination.

Shape‐Stabilization of Phase Change Materials with Carbon‐Conscious Poly(hydroxy)Urethane Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Poly(hydroxy)urethane (PHU) foam, derivable from carbon dioxide (CO2) and bio‐based resources, is a promising material platform for shape‐stabilizing phase change materials (PCMs). We demonstrate the encapsulation of both paraffins and calcium chloride hexahydrate in PHU foam, achieving 48 stable thermal cycles by introducing 5 wt.% barium carbonate ...

Band-edge BCS-BEC crossover in a two-band superconductor: physical properties and detection parameters [PDF]

open access: yesSupercond. Sci. Technol. 27, 124002 (2014), 2014
Superconductivity in iron-based, magnesium diborides, and other novel superconducting materials has a strong multi-band and multi-gap character. Recent experiments support the possibillity for a BCS-BEC crossover induced by strong-coupling and proximity of the chemical potential to the band edge of one of the bands.

Exploring Electronic States and Ultrafast Electron Dynamics in AlInP Window Layers: The Role of Surface Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the surface characteristics of AlInP (001), crucial for advanced solar cells and photoelectrochemical devices. Using theoretical modeling and experiments, it identifies how phosphorus‐rich and indium‐rich surfaces create mid‐gap states that pin the Fermi level and influence ultrafast electron dynamics.

FPGA Implementation of Crossover Module of Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesInformation, 2019
This paper proposes a hardware realization of the crossover module in the genetic algorithm for the travelling salesman problem (TSP). In order to enhance performance, we employ a combination of pipelining and parallelization with a genetic algorithm (GA)

Benchmarking a $(μ+λ)$ Genetic Algorithm with Configurable Crossover Probability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We investigate a family of $(\mu+\lambda)$ Genetic Algorithms (GAs) which creates offspring either from mutation or by recombining two randomly chosen parents. By scaling the crossover probability, we can thus interpolate from a fully mutation-only algorithm towards a fully crossover-based GA. We analyze, by empirical means, how the performance depends
