Social Media and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Cities and Societies: A Water Quality Analysis Use-Case

open access: yesComputing&AI Connect
Crowd-sourcing has been widely explored for monitoring and feedback on infrastructure and services, such as air and water quality analysis. However, the traditional methods of crowd-sourcing for feedback and analysis of water quality, namely offline and ...

A Unifying Thermodynamic Model for Phase Separation and Aging of Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phase separation and aging of intrinsically disordered proteins are placed in a unifying framework. A thermodynamically consistent time‐dependent version of associating‐polymer theory shows how the processes are intricately coupled. Assuming aging to occur through interacting sites resulting from reversible conformational transitions, the model ...

Aberrant GRP78 Phase Transition Sustains Endothelial IRE1α Signaling and Drives Blood–Brain Barrier Failure in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Vascular Aβ40 corrupts GRP78 phase behavior in brain endothelial cells, sustaining IRE1α–TRAF2–JNK signaling and driving apoptosis, tight junction loss, and blood–brain barrier failure in cerebral amyloid angiopathy. Pharmacological IRE1α inhibition restores vascular integrity, reduces leakage, and improves functional outcomes, revealing a targetable ...

CrowdWatch: Enabling In-Network Crowd-sourcing

open access: yes, 2015
Proliferation of mobile smartphones has opened up possi-bilities of using crowd-sourcing to gather data from and so monitor large crowds. However, depending on the size of the crowd, current solutions either put unpredictable stress on the infrastructure

Covalently Integrated Selenoviologen–N‐Heterocyclic Carbene–Pt Nanoparticles for Visible‐Light‐Driven Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A covalently integrated single‐component photocatalyst is constructed by anchoring selenoviologen to platinum nanoparticles via robust N‐heterocyclic carbene ligands. The resulting Pt─C covalent bonds function dually as protective structural scaffolds and direct channels for ultrafast intramolecular electron transfer This precise interfacial ...

Chromatin Packing Domain Engineering Through the Manipulation of Nuclear Cationic States

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Manipulation of intranuclear divalent cation concentrations rapidly and reversibly remodels chromatin packing domains in living cells. Magnesium depletion disrupts domain compaction, heterochromatin organization, and transcriptional regulation, whereas magnesium loading promotes more compact and stable domains.

Partial Phase‐Separation in the Initial Growth Stage of Exsolution‐Active SrTi0.95‐xNi0.05NbxO3‐δ Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phase separation emerges during the initial growth of heavily Ni‐ and Ni,Nb‐co‐doped STO thin films, leading to preferential accumulation of Ni and embedded NiOx nanoinclusions in thicker films. Nb co‐doping partially suppresses the ordering of these embedded structures, comprising about 20% of all Ni ions.

Persistent robot tasking for environmental monitoring through crowd-sourcing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Persistent monitoring of the ocean is not optimally accomplished by repeatedly executing a fixed path in a fixed location. The ocean is dynamic, and so should the executed paths to monitor and observe it.
