Crowd Counting in Diverse Environments Using a Deep Routing Mechanism Informed by Crowd Density Levels

open access: yesInformation
Automated crowd counting is a crucial aspect of surveillance, especially in the context of mass events attended by large populations. Traditional methods of manually counting the people attending an event are error-prone, necessitating the development of

Automated Hate Speech Detection and the Problem of Offensive Language

open access: yes, 2017
A key challenge for automatic hate-speech detection on social media is the separation of hate speech from other instances of offensive language. Lexical detection methods tend to have low precision because they classify all messages containing particular

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

Supporting Creative Work with Crowd Feedback Systems

open access: yesCoRR, 2020
Crowd feedback systems have the potential to support creative workers with feedback from the crowd. In this position paper for the Workshop on Designing Crowd-powered Creativity Support Systems (DC2S2) at CHI '19, we present three creativity support tools in which we explore how creative workers can be assisted with crowdsourced formative and summative

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.
