Least square fitting of pollock model for tree detection and crown delineation
2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017Pollock model was one of the popular template matching algorithms, which constructs a three-dimensional description of each individual tree-crown envelope. Unfortunately, it is always challenging to determine parameters since each tree has different grown condition. This paper proposed an iterative least square fitting algorithm to form a Pollock model

Mangrove Tree Crown Delineation from High-Resolution Imagery
Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing, 2015Mangroves are very dense, spatially heterogeneous, and have limited height variations between neighboring trees. Delineating individual tree crowns is thus very challenging. This study compared methods for isolating mangrove crowns using object based image analysis.

Active Contour and Hill Climbing for Tree Crown Detection and Delineation
Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing, 2010This paper presents a new approach for individual tree crown detection and delineation that is applicable under various imaging conditions. The approach extracts crown area using a region-based active contour model and then detects tree tops within the crown area by considering both spectral and shape characteristics of the crown.

A Fusion Approach for Tree Crown Delineation from Lidar Data
Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing, 2012This study proposes a multi-step method (the COTH method) to delineate individual tree crowns in dense forest conditions using lidar data, with the intent for the final delineation results to be used in a biomass estimation study. The study was conducted for an even-aged Norway Spruce (Picea abies) plantation containing 188 trees located in Tully, New ...

Delineation of individual tree crowns for mobile laser scanning data
SPIE Proceedings, 2016The information of individual trees plays an important role in urban surveying and mapping. With the development of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology, 3-Dimenisonal (3D) structure of trees can be generated in point clouds with high spatial resolution and accuracy.

An efficient approach to 3D single tree-crown delineation in LiDAR data
ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, 2015Abstract This paper proposes a new method for 3D delineation of single tree-crowns in LiDAR data by exploiting the complementaries of treetop and tree trunk detections. A unified mathematical framework is provided based on the graph theory, allowing for all the segmentations to be achieved using marker-controlled watersheds.

Currently, most individual tree crowns delineation methods are proposed for aerial images and Lidar data. In this paper, a scheme is proposed to delineate tree crowns from the high spatial resolution WorldView-3 satellite imagery. We select a multiscale fitting scheme for the delineation and propose two modifications to optimize the result generated ...

Multispectral remote sensing from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) platforms is fast becoming an economical approach to gather Very High Resolution (VHR) spatial data at the individual tree level. However, detecting and delineating tree crowns are challenging due to the intrinsic intra-class spectral variability, shadow and noise in VHR images.

Identification and delineation of individual tree crowns using Lidar and multispectral data fusion
2015 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2015The aim of this study is to propose and evaluate methodology for identification and delineation of individual tree crowns, using Lidar and multispectral data fusion. Methods implementing data fusion are based on image binarization (thresholding) and region growing segmentation algorithm.

Tree crown detection and delineation in high resolution RS image a texture approach discussion
IEEE International IEEE International IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2004. IGARSS '04. Proceedings. 2004, 2004Vegetation inventory and management requires a range of fine-scale information regarding tree attributes. High spatial resolution remote sensing images can provide such information efficiently. However, tree crowns should be detected and delineated accurately beforehand.
