Clustomesogen Showing Sub‐Zero Liquid Crystal Properties: Supramolecular Assembly Between Cs2[Mo6Ii8(OCOC2F5)6] and Hexaethylenoxide Containing Mesogenic Dimers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral hexanuclear molybdenum cluster compound with hexaethyleneoxide chains bearing mesogenic units on both ends leads to an emissive hybrid liquid crystal showing mesomorphism on a very unusual temperature range down to −25°C.

Individual tree crown delineation from high-resolution UAV images in broadleaf forest

open access: yesEcological Informatics, 2021
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) paired with a structure from motion (SfM) algorithm (UAV-SfM) can be used to derive canopy height models (CHMs) for individual tree crown delineation (ITCD). ITCD algorithms normally perform well in coniferous forests, but their capabilities in broadleaf or mixed forests are still challenging.

A Pentaradial and Bilateral Combined Photoreception System in the Sea Cucumber is Mediated by a Blue Light‐Sensitive R‐Opsin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.
