Assessing the success of a horizon scanning approach in predicting invasive non‐native species arrival

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
We conclude that horizon scanning provides a rapid, affordable and successful mechanism to predict the arrival of high‐risk INNS. We highlight the importance of citizen science, including biological recording, and of local expertise for detecting and documenting arrival of INNS.

Susceptibility of Some Grapevine Cultivars and Rootstocks to Crown Gall Disease

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Enology & Viticulture, 2016
The effects of five interspecific hybrid rootstocks on the susceptibility of grafted scions to crown gall were studied for six years in field as well as greenhouse experiments. The incidence of crown gall on susceptible grape scion cultivars (Vitis vinifera cvs.

Impact of pine looper defoliation in Scots pine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Widespread defoliation of forests caused by insects or fungi cause economic losses throughout the world. Successful outbreak management involves cost/benefit estimation and requires knowledge of potential yield losses. Currently, such knowledge is scarce.

Biological Control of Plant Disease Caused by Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Bacterial diseases in plants are difficult to control. The emphasis is on preventing the spread of the bacteria rather than curing the diseased plant. Integrated management measures for bacterial plant pathogens should be applied for successfull control.

Isolation of non-pathogenic Agrobacterium spp. biovar 1 from agricultural soils in Slovenia

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2014
The disease crown gall, which causes damage on perennial agricultural crops, is economically important in many countries. We therefore explored the presence of Agrobacterium spp. in a variety of agricultural soils where fruit trees are grown.
