From Waste to Value: Conversion of Calcium Sulfate to Vaterite via Carbon Capture and Storage
This study introduces a new concept for carbon management that relies on the carbonation of industrial gypsum waste and yields phase‐pure vaterite at ambient conditions without any additives. The obtained vaterite is further shown to be a reactive material that develops compressive strength in aqueous suspensions like conventional cements.

Valorisation of glycerol by Pichia pastoris under increased air pressure [PDF]
Pichia pastoris has many biotechnological applications. Two aspects of the species have contributed to its utility: (1) fermentation techniques were developed for maintaining extremely high cell densities in excess of 100 g/L dry weight, and (2) because ...

Crude Glycerol as an Innovative Corrosion Inhibitor
Crude glycerol, a byproduct of biodiesel production, was evaluated as a potential green inhibitor for steel corrosion in an acidic environment. The study was conducted using steel specimens placed in hydrochloric acid solutions (0.5 M) at a constant room temperature (25 °C) and crude glycerol concentrations in the range 0.1%–1.0% w/w. The criteria used

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.

Preparation of Polyurethane from Lignin and Crude Glycerol
Polyurethane foam (PUF) was prepared by a novel approach, using a renewable polyol derived from only biofuel production by-products, lignin and crude glycerol. This could potentially be a high value bio-refinery application for the two byproducts from cellulosic ethanol and biodiesel production, respectively.Renewable polyols were synthesized by the ...

Broadband, Flexible, Skin‐Compatible Carbon Dots/Graphene Photodetectors for Wearable Applications
Broadband, flexible photodetectors integrating nitrogen‐rich carbon dots with single‐layer graphene on plastic substrates are demonstrated. A biocompatible chitosan–glycerol electrolyte enables efficient low‐voltage gating and on‐skin operation. The devices exhibit ultraviolet‐to‐near‐infrared response, mechanical robustness under bending, and verified
