Limited connectivity of zooplankton communities across the Labrador Front: role of physical oceanography, insights from individual motility

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 8, August 2026.
Near the western margin of the highly productive Labrador Sea, the Labrador Current creates a large and steep oceanographic front between the Arctic‐origin shelf waters and the Atlantic offshore waters (i.e. the Labrador Front), presumably segregating or accumulating plankton communities.

Enabling Under Ice Glider Operations: A Backseat Driver Approach

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 5, Page 3292-3311, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Polar Oceans are key locations for forcing global ocean circulation, influencing both global climate and biogeochemical cycles. Due to restricted access to these seasonally and perennially ice‐covered regions, these areas are severely undersampled.

Lunar Trailblazer Spacecraft Tracking and Mission Recovery Attempt: Characterization of Status and Behavior of a Non‐Cooperative Object in Cis‐Lunar Space

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Unexpectedly following launch, the Lunar Trailblazer mission experienced software anomalies that led it to orient solar panels away from the sun and lose communication with Earth. This paper describes efforts to determine the spacecraft state and attempt recovery of the mission's science at the Moon.

High‐Resolution Particle Imaging Reveals the Importance of Phytodetrital Aggregate Flux and Mesopelagic Grazing for Carbon Storage in the Southern Ocean

open access: yesGlobal Biogeochemical Cycles, Volume 40, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract The biological, chemical, and physical processes in the mesopelagic zone that impact carbon flux to the deep ocean are poorly understood, particularly in the Southern Ocean, despite their importance to deep ocean carbon storage. Using a CTD‐mounted underwater imaging system, the Underwater Vision Profiler 5, we observed distributions of large ...
