Role of strongly magnetized crusts in torsional shear modes of magnetars [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
We study the influence of magnetised crusts on torsional shear mode oscillations of magnetars. In this context, we employ magnetised crusts whose ground state properties are affected by Landau quantisation of electrons. The shear modulus of magnetised crusts is enhanced in strong magnetic fields $\geq 10^{17}$ G.

HIGH-MG LAVAS FROM THE DARIGANGA VOLCANIC FIELD IN THE SOUTHEASTERN MONGOLIA: PETROGENETIC MODEL OF MAGMATISM AT THE ASTHENOSPHERE–LITHOSPHERE BOUNDARY

open access: yesГеодинамика и тектонофизика, 2015
It is revealed that high-Mg lavas (MgO=11.0–15.8 wt. %) are spatially controlled by linear zones extending for more than 90 km and demonstrate chemically distinct differences from moderately-Mg compositions (MgO=3.0–11.0 wt.

Formation scenarios and mass-radius relation for neutron stars

open access: yes, 2011
Neutron star crust, formed via accretion of matter from a companion in a low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB), has an equation of state (EOS) stiffer than that of catalyzed matter.

Earth’s Earliest Crust

open access: yesElements
The scarcity of rocks preserved from the first billion years (Gy) of Earth’s history hinders our ability to study the nature of the earliest crust. Rare >4.0-Gy-old zircons confirm that felsic crust was present within 500 million years of Earth’s formation.

Electrolyte Chemistry Development for Sodium‐Based Batteries: A Blueprint from Lithium or a Step Towards Originality?

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Currently, electrolyte design for sodium‐based batteries is largely inherited from their lithium‐based counterparts, which often present critical challenges that hinder forging new perspectives and thus further improvements. This work delves into the key properties of representative sodium and lithium‐based electrolytes, encompassing prevailing salt ...

Ba‐Ni‐Ge Clathrate Transformation Maximizes Active Site Utilization of Nickel for Enhanced Oxygen Evolution Performance

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Discovering novel oxygen evolution reaction (OER) (pre)catalysts with exceptional catalytic activity and long‐term stability is pivotal for advancing technologies aimed at decarbonization. In this study, we present the ternary Ba8Ni6Ge40 phase with a clathrate structure exhibiting remarkable performance in alkaline OER. When integrated into an alkaline

Continental crustal composition and lower crustal models [PDF]

open access: yes
The composition of the upper crust is well established as being close to that of granodiorite. The upper crustal composition is reflected in the uniform REE abundances in shales which represent an homogenization of the various REE patterns.
