Cabomba caroliniana and Schoenoplectus californicus as Antifouling Candidates: Anti-Attachment and Toxicological Effects in Aurelia coerulea (Cnidaria, Scyphozoa). [PDF]

open access: yesEnviron Toxicol
ABSTRACT Biofouling on artificial surfaces in aquatic ecosystems leads to significant economic losses. Current antifouling paints, while effective, often harm the aquatic environment. This study explores ecologically safe antifouling alternatives derived from plants, focusing on the aquatic macrophytes Cabomba caroliniana (CC) and Schoenoplectus ...

Toxic Relationships: Prediction of TBT’s Affinity to the Ecdysteroid Receptor of Triops longicaudatus

open access: yesToxics, 2023
Tributyltin (TBT) is a biocide introduced in the 1960s in antifouling paints. Despite legislation banning its use, its persistence in the environment still causes significant harm to organisms.

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Hæmoglobin in the Crustacea [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1957
HAEMOGLOBIN in solution in the blood plasma is found in numerous entomostracan Crustacea. Ray Lankester first discovered it in Chirocephalus, observing the absorption bands of oxyhaemoglobin with a microspectroscope1, and soon afterwards found it in Daphnia. The wave-length of the α-band differs among species within the genus Daphnia 2.
