Processes of granite emplacement: NW Ireland and SE Brazil [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
This thesis is a study of some of the processes which operate at mid crustal levels (10- 20km) during the emplacement of granitoid magmas, with particular reference to the process of in-situ expansion and the association between magma emplacement and ...

Estimating Soil Compaction Risk at Regional Scales Using Meteorological Data and Soil Spectroscopy

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil compaction is a significant form of soil degradation in Europe, reducing agricultural productivity, limiting carbon sequestration and increasing greenhouse gases emissions. In response, the forthcoming European Union Soil Monitoring and Resilience Law requires spatial assessment of topsoil and subsoil compaction risk at district, that is,

Relation between earthquake swarm activity and tides in the Noto region, Japan

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
The Noto region in Japan has been experiencing earthquake swarm activity since mid-2018, with repeated rises and falls in activity. Crustal deformation (expansion and uplift) observed there since the end of 2020 has been connected to crustal fluids ...

Efficient Stepwise Screening of Inorganic Crystal Structure Databases for Novel Potassium‐Ion Conducting Chalcogenides

open access: yesMaterials Genome Engineering Advances, EarlyView.
A high‐throughput screening of the ICSD, combining of crystal‐chemical, Monte Carlo, and quantum‐chemical methods, was performed to identify novel potassium‐conducting chalcogenides. From 853 objects, the search was narrowed down to nine promising conductors exhibiting low cationic migration barriers (<1 eV) and high room‐temperatured ionic ...

Deformation processes in polycrystalline aggregates of gypsum

open access: yes, 1995
On the basis of both field and laboratory studies it is well established that polycrystalline gypsum is one of the weakest and most ductile rock materials found in the Earth's crust (e.g.

Does Total Inferior and Middle Turbinectomy Always Lead to Empty Nose Syndrome?

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Empty Nose Syndrome (ENS) is a rare and paradoxical complication often associated with aggressive turbinate reductions. Previous computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling has indicated that distorted nasal airflow patterns could contribute to ENS.

Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Sb2O2[CO3] with Stereochemically Active Lone Electron Pairs at Elevated Pressures

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
Sb2O2[CO3] was synthesized at 20 GPa in a laser‐heated diamond cell and is an antimony oxocarbonate with stereochemically active lone electron pairs on the antimony atoms. Its crystal structure is characterized by the presence of [CO3]2–‐groups and by interconnected “Sb2O5‐units” which form a Sb–O‐network within the b,c lattice plane.

Brittle Structural Control and Fluid Progress of the Jinqingding Gold Deposit: Implications for Epizonal Gold Mineralization

open access: yesActa Geologica Sinica - English Edition, EarlyView.
High‐grade orebodies are controlled by stress field with σ1 oriented NE‐SW during the main mineralization stage.Inferred NEE‐trending strike‐slip fault control another orebody distribution. ABSTRACT The Jinqingding gold deposit in eastern Jiaodong is a significant gold mineralization within the Muping–Rushan metallogenic belt.

The Material Basis of 18th‐Century Meissen Porcelain

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the summer of 1708, the quest for making hard‐paste porcelain from Saxonian clay and other mineral resources succeeded. This was achieved by applying as its essential ingredient newly discovered pure kaolin from Heidelsberg near Aue, western Saxon Ore Mountains.
