Mechanics of Time-Dependent Deformation in Crustal Rocks
Poromechanics V, 2013The characterization of time-dependent brittle rock deformation is fundamental to understanding the long-term evolution and dynamics of the crust. Here we report results from a study of brittle creep in Darley Dale sandstone under triaxial stress conditions.

Fluids, tectonics and crustal deformation
Tectonophysics, 1985Abstract In the plate tectonic process, lithosphere creation at ocean ridges and its cooling leads to volatile fixation in the oceanic crust. The outer 10 km or so of all crust contains abundant water in pores and fractures and variable amounts of volatiles in minerals.

Earth Crustal and Mantle Deformation
1974One of the more interesting aspects of geophysics, and also unfortunately one of the least susceptible to theoretical description, has to do with the deformation of the earth’s crust and upper mantle through geologic time. The surficial features of these deformations and related processes are readily apparent in continents and ocean basins, island arcs

Crustal Deformation and Fractals, a Review
1994The frequency—magnitude statistics of earthquakes have long been known to satisfy the Gutenberg—Richter relation; it is easy to show that this relation is fractal with D=1.8–2. Since it is generally accepted that individual faults have characteristic earthquakes, it follows that the number—size statistics of faults are also fractal.

Numerical Models of Crustal Deformation
1978Several tectonic features in Southern California cannot be directly explained by the plate tectonic interpretation for the region. In particular, both the existence of the Transverse Ranges and the geometry of the San Andreas fault imply a stress pattern deviating from the simple horizontal shear, which parallels the spreading between the Pacific and ...
