Pain Management in Mandibular Molars With Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis: Mechanisms, Clinical Efficacy and Current Evidence: A Narrative Review

open access: yesPain Research and Management, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Pain control remains a cornerstone in endodontic practice, particularly in cases of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis where achieving profound anaesthesia is often challenging. As the inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) frequently fails to provide profound pulpal anaesthesia, optimizing pain control in such cases requires evidence‐based ...

Sexual Shape Dimorphism of the Mangrove Crab Ucides cordatus (Linnaeus, 1763) (Decapoda, Ucididae) Accessed through Geometric Morphometric

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Sexual dimorphism is often observed in Crustaceans. Considering the great diversity of this subphylum, only few reports are found in the literature and most are mainly based on traditional morphometry. The present study uses geometric morphometrics analysis to identify sexual dimorphism by shape variation in the overexploited semiterrestrial crab ...

A Drosophila model of prion disease and its metabolic changes in the brain

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, Volume 8, Issue 8, Page 1347-1363, August 2025.
We developed a Drosophila model for prion disease, and flies were capable of expressing the hamster prion protein (HaPrP) under the control of the GAL4/UAS system. The model exhibited some characteristics of the disease in mammals and displayed alterations in protein, sphingolipid, and carbohydrate metabolism. Preliminary applications have demonstrated

A Latent Propriospinal Network Can Restore Diaphragm Function After High Cervical Spinal Cord Injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Spinal cord injury (SCI) above cervical level 4 disrupts descending axons from the medulla that innervate phrenic motor neurons, causing permanent paralysis of the diaphragm. Using an ex vivo preparation in neonatal mice, we have identified an excitatory

Effectiveness of vapocoolant spray compared to eutectic lidocaine/prilocaine cream to enhance tolerance during intravenous catheterisation: a randomised controlled trial

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, Volume 66, Issue 4, Page 236-242, April 2025.
Objectives To determine if tolerance of intravenous catheterisation differs following the application of vapocoolant spray compared to lidocaine/prilocaine cream in dogs and cats. Materials and Methods A randomised controlled trial of client‐owned dogs and cats requiring intravenous catheterisation was performed.

Ubiquitination of NS1 Confers Differential Adaptation of Zika Virus in Mammalian Hosts and Mosquito Vectors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 39, October 23, 2024.
ZIKV NS1 undergoes ubiquitination in both mammalian hosts and mosquito vectors. The mammalian E3 ligase WWP2 mediates the ubiquitination and degradation of NS1, thereby restricts ZIKV infection in mammalian hosts. In contrast, a mosquito homolog of hWWP2 enhances ZIKV infection in vectors, contributing to virus expansion.

IPSC-derived neural stem cells act via kinase inhibition to exert neuroprotective effects in spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress type 1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress type 1 (SMARD1) is a motor neuron disease caused by mutations in the IGHMBP2 gene, without a cure. Here, we demonstrate that neural stem cells (NSCs) from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have

Determinants of Pain Perception and Patient Satisfaction in Dental Local Anesthesia: A Comprehensive Meta-Analysis of Verbal Cues, Mechanical Interventions, and the Expectancy Disconfirmation Model [PDF]

open access: yes
The administration of local anesthesia represents a critical juncture in the provision of dental care, acting simultaneously as the primary facilitator of painless treatment and the most significant source of patient anxiety and avoidance behavior.

Dezocine as preemptive analgesia alleviates ultrapulse CO2 fractional laser treatment induced pain in patients with acne scars

open access: yesJournal of Cosmetic Dermatology, Volume 23, Issue 10, Page 3241-3247, October 2024.
Abstract Background Ultrapluse CO2 fractional laser technology has emerged as an effective treatment for scar management. However, one drawback of this modality is the pain caused during the procedure. This study aims to explore the efficacy and safety of dezocine (DZC) as preemptive analgesia for reduction of pain induced by ultrapulse CO2 fractional ...

Evaluation of neuroretina following i.v. or intra‐CSF AAV9 gene replacement in mice with MPS IIIA, a childhood dementia

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 30, Issue 8, August 2024.
Beard, Hemsley and colleagues compared the efficacy of neonatal AAV9‐based gene replacement via intravenous or cerebrospinal fluid injection routes, on retinal degeneration in a mouse model of childhood dementia caused by Sanfilippo syndrome. Intravenous AAV9‐CMV‐human sulfamidase resulted in superior therapeutic efficacy, compared with cerebrospinal ...
