A cryogenic dc-dc power converter for a 100kW synchronous HTS generator at liquid nitrogen temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A dc-dc converter has been developed for retrofitting inside the vacuum space of the HTS rotor of a synchronous generator. The heavy copper sections of the current leads used for energising the HTS field winding were replaced by cryogenic power ...

Theoretical and Numerical Analysis of Freezing Risk During LNG Evaporation Process

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
The liquid natural gas (LNG) boiling process concerns most LNG applications due to a need for regasification. Depending on the pressure, the equilibrium temperature of LNG is 112–160 K.

Reaction‐Time pH Stabilization by Poly(acrylic acid) with Ethanol‐Mediated Growth Control for Efficient Hydrothermal Sb2(S,Se)3 Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Poly(acrylic acid) acts as a reaction‐time pH buffer during hydrothermal Sb2(S,Se)3 growth through its COOH/COO‐ equilibrium. When combined with ethanol‐regulated growth, this buffering strategy reduces Sb‐O related surface disorder, improves local electronic uniformity and carrier collection, and increases the champion solar‐cell efficiency to 10.25%,

Evolution of Cryogenic Engineering

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
Abstract Individual scientists began to address technology problems that would fall in the category of cryogenics in the half century before 1900. Air was liquefied and, in several steps, distillation columns for air separation evolved.

Beyond Thin Film Limits—Superhard and Hydrogen‐Free Amorphous Carbon Coatings With Over 100 µm Thickness

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
For the first time, an extreme‐thick laser‐arc PVD ta‐C (DLC) coating exceeding 100 µm is demonstrated, opening up new possibilities for ultra‐high load bearing capacity. This superhard amorphous carbon architecture combines >50% sp3 bonding, robust adhesion and self‐supporting performance, shielding substrates from plastic flow under extreme contact ...

Dynamic Observation of Lacy Pattern Formation in a Bone Tissue Model Using Liquid Phase Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we establish a low‐dose liquid‐phase electron microscopy workflow for real‐time observation of biological processes in hydrated conditions. Beam damage is reduced by imaging only 20% of the pixels and reconstructing the complete image using an inpainting algorithm.

Self‐Powered, Ultra‐Sensitive InGaAs/ITO Nanowire Radial Junction Infrared Photodiode for Low Flux Imaging at Room Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a self‐powered InGaAs nanowire photodetector achieving single‐photon‐level sensitivity in the shortwave infrared at non‐cryogenic temperatures. The device demonstrates high‐speed imaging capabilities even under extremely low‐flux conditions.
