Precision orbit determination performance for CryoSat-2
Advances in Space Research, 2018Abstract In this paper we discuss our efforts to perform precision orbit determination (POD) of CryoSat-2 which depends on Doppler and satellite laser ranging tracking data. A dynamic orbit model is set-up and the residuals between the model and the tracking data is evaluated. The average r.m.s. of the 10 s averaged Doppler tracking pass residuals is

Cryosat-2 altimetry of BC Coastal Mountain glaciers
Remote Sensing Letters, 2016ABSTRACTCryosat-2 altimetry, for the period July 2010 to January 2016, shows widespread melting of glaciers in the southern part of the British Columbia (BC) Coastal Mountain range in western Canada. The Interferometric Radar Altimeter on Cryosat-2 is in synthetic aperture mode in this area, recording elevations of suitably-sloping targets out to about

Improvement of a radiation model for Cryosat-2
2014In this paper we discuss the precision orbit modeling of Cryosat-2 launched on 8-April-2010 to map the cryosphere with an advanced radar altimeter system. The satellite is tracked with laser and DORIS for which we find residuals of 1.58 cm and 0.4 mm/sec respectively.

Cryosat-2: Impact of Mission Resuscitation on Data System
SpaceOps 2010 Conference, 2010In October 2005, a launcher failure ended the CryoSat mission before that a single bit could be processed by the Ground Segment. Since the future of the mission was not known a formal close-down of the activities, including the documentation and all systems was performed, ensuring consolidation of pending issues and configuration control of all the ...

Improved retrieval of sea ice thickness from SMOS and CryoSat-2
2015 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2015We investigate the potential of a synergetic combination of data from ESA's SMOS and CryoSat-2 mission for sea ice thickness retrieval. SMOS and CryoSat-2 provide complementary information because of their different spatio-temporal sampling and resolution, and because of the complementary uncertainty due to the fundamental difference of the radiometric

Validation of the extended CryoSat-2 ocean data products
2017Operational marine products from CryoSat-2, generated by a dedicated processor, have been available since April 2014. Here we present some results of a verification and scientific validation of the Geophysical Ocean Products (GOP), which have consolidated orbits and are available 30 days after acquisition.

CryoSat-2 Long-term Ocean Data Analysis and validation
2019The ESA’s Earth Explorer CryoSat-2 mission is dedicated to precise measurement of the changes in the thickness of marine ice floating on the polar oceans and variations in the thickness of the vast ice sheets that overlie Greenland and Antarctica. With the effects of a fast-changing climate becoming apparent, particularly in the Polar Regions, it is ...
