Assessment of Pelagic Food Webs in Mendums Pond, NH [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This study focused on the relationship between plankton in Mendums Pond, NH. A grazing experiment was conducted to determine the effect of zooplankton on the phytoplankton population.

Blooms of filamentous cyanobacteria reduce zooplankton quality and pelagic food web efficiency

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue S2, Page S69-S83, December 2025.
Abstract Cyanobacterial blooms in marine and freshwater ecosystems have increased in magnitude, frequency, and distribution worldwide during recent decades. Filamentous cyanobacteria are of unsuitable size for mesozooplankton feeding and of poorer nutritional quality than other phytoplankton taxa. The production and quality of higher trophic levels are

Phytoplankton assemblages in a reservoir cascade of a large tropical - subtropical river (SE, Brazil)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The phytoplankton assemblages from eight reservoirs of the Paranapanema River were studied during two consecutive years. Chlorophyceae and Bacillaryophyceae dominated in richness.

Co-occurrence networks reveal the central role of temperature in structuring the plankton community of the Thau Lagoon

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
To identify the environmental factors that drive plankton community composition and structure in coastal waters, a shallow northwestern Mediterranean lagoon was monitored from winter to spring in two contrasting years.

Diapycnal Nutrient Fluxes and a Practical Assessment of the Biological Nutrient Trap in the North and South Atlantic Subtropical Gyres

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 130, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Diapycnal mixing supplies nutrients to the euphotic zone, which in oligotrophic regions may substantially support rates of new production. However, the consensus view that diapycnal nutrient fluxes support new production within the entire euphotic zone is challenged by deep living autotrophs that likely consume some, if not all, of the ...

Description of a New Species of the Genus Cryptomonas (Cryptophyceae: Cryptomonadales), Isolated from Soils in a Tropical Forest

open access: yesDiversity, 2022
A new species, Cryptomonas tropica sp. nov., is described from Cat Tien National Park (Vietnam) based on morphological and molecular data. Strains of the new species were isolated from soil, which is an unusual environment for photosynthetic cryptomonads.
