Cu2OSeO3 turns trigonal with structural transformation and implications for skyrmions

open access: yesScientific Reports
The formation and characteristics of magnetic skyrmions are strongly governed by the symmetry of the underlying crystal structure. In this study, we report the discovery of a new trigonal polymorph of Cu2OSeO3, observed exclusively in nanoparticles ...

Total immersion crystal growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Crystals of wide band gap materials are produced by positioning a holder receiving a seed crystal at the interface between a body of molten wide band gap material and an overlying layer of temperature-controlled, encapsulating liquid.

Compatibility waves drive crystal growth on patterned substrates

open access: yes, 2013
We explore the crystallization in a colloidal monolayer on a structured template starting from a few-particle nucleus. The competition between the substrate structure and that of the growing crystal induces a new crystal growth scenario.

The mechanisms of crystal growth inhibition by organic and inorganic inhibitors

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Understanding mineral growth mechanism is a key to understanding biomineralisation, fossilisation and diagenesis. The presence of trace compounds affect the growth and dissolution rates and the form of the crystals produced.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The effective role of alkali earth/alkali ratio on formation HCA nano particles for soda lime phospho silicate glass system

open access: yesOpenNano, 2017
In the present work, we report on the effect of the CaO/Na2O ratio on Non-Bridging Oxygen/Bridging Oxygen (NBO/BO) ratio for sol-gel synthesised 58SiO2-(38-x)CaO-xNa2O-4P2O5 glasses and establish the correlation between Hydroxy Carbonated Apatite layer ...

A cellular automata modelling of dendritic crystal growth based on Moore and von Neumann neighbourhood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
An important step in understanding crystal growth patterns involves simulation of the growth processes using mathematical models. In this paper some commonly used models in this area are reviewed, and a new simulation model of dendritic crystal growth ...

Motion of Contact Line of a Crystal Over the Edge of Solid Mask in Epitaxial Lateral Overgrowth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Mathematical model that allows for direct tracking of the homoepitaxial crystal growth out of the window etched in the solid, pre-deposited layer on the substrate is described.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
