Mucus Physically Restricts Influenza A Viral Particle Access to the Epithelium

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The infectious potential of respiratory viruses depends on their ability to navigate through a layer of mucus that serves as a protective barrier in the lung. It is demonstrated that influenza A virus penetration through mucus is significantly limited by the gel's internal microstructure and, to a lesser extent, by adhesive binding to mucin glycans ...

2-{4-[Bis(4-bromophenyl)amino]benzylidene}malononitrile

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2014
In the crystal structure of the title compound, C22H13Br2N3, the two bromophenyl rings are rotated out of the plane of the central benzylidene ring by 68.7 (1) and 69.3 (1)°. Both cyano substituents are located nearly in the plane of the benzylidene ring,

Spatiotemporal Control Over Protein Release from Artificial Cells via a Light‐Activatable Protease

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Stimulus‐responsive protein release is essential for intercellular communication. Mimicking this functionality in artificial cells is promising to study the working principles of cellular signaling. Herein, an engineered light‐activatable protease is implemented in a coacervate‐based artificial cell platform to establish user‐defined spatiotemporal ...

Depletion of TP53 in Human Pluripotent Stem Cells Triggers Malignant‐Like Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) with TP53‐depleting mutations are generated, mimicking commonly occurring events in vitro. Loss of TP53 does not alter pluripotency status or in vitro differentiation potential but causes genetic instability and transcriptome changes and confers superior clonal and anchorage‐free growth and higher chemotherapeutic ...

2-[(4,6-Diaminopyrimidin-2-yl)sulfanyl]-N-(2-methylphenyl)acetamide

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2014
In the title compound, C13H15NOS, the plane of the pyrimidine ring makes a dihedral angle of 54.73 (9)° with that of the o-tolyl ring. The molecule adopts an extended conformation, which is evident from the C—C(=O)—N—Car (ar = aromatic) torsion angle of ...

Toward Design Principles for Biomolecular Condensates for Metabolic Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates are membrane‐less compartments found through‐out nature which can serve as reaction crucibles for biochemical processes. This review explores the design strategies underlying how condensates can be used in biotechnology to enhance multistep enzyme cascades including enhancement by mass action and substrate channeling, and ...

Optical quantum computer based on RDS crystal [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2001
We have proposed the construction of optical quantum computer (OQC) on regular domain structure (RDS) crystal. By using RDS crystal, we can perform all the logical operations on one RDS crystal. Moreover, RDS crystals are parctically independent to the heating effects i.e., can perform logic operations constantly without cooling the RDS crystal.
