Influence of goal-directed therapy with balanced crystalloid–colloid or unbalanced crystalloid solution on base excess [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2014
Objective To investigate changes in standard base excess (SBE) when administering two different infusion regimens for elective hip replacement within a goal-directed haemodynamic algorithm. Methods This prospective, double-blind ...

Is blood a necessary component of the perfusate during isolated limb perfusion – a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia, 2019
Background: Isolated limb perfusion (ILP) is a treatment option for malignancies localized to an extremity and is performed by surgical isolation of the limb which is connected to an extracorporeal circulation system.

The effect of crystalloid versus medium molecular weight colloid solution on post-operative nausea and vomiting after ambulatory gynecological surgery - a prospective randomized trial

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology, 2012
Background Intravenous fluid is recommended in international guidelines to improve patient post-operative symptoms, particularly nausea and vomiting. The optimum fluid regimen has not been established.

Oxygenation of a Crystalloid Cardioplegic Solution

open access: yesThe Journal of ExtraCorporeal Technology, 1986
The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of an alternative method of oxygenating a crystalloid cardioplegic solution to the use of a bubble oxygenator. Five hundred milliliters of 100% oxygen was introduced, using sterile technique, into 100 ml bags of Ringer's solution at varying temperatures (20°, 10°, and 4°C).

A comparison of intraoperative goal-directed intravenous administration of crystalloid versus colloid solutions on the postoperative maximum N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide in patients undergoing moderate- to high-risk noncardiac surgery

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology, 2020
Background N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and troponin T are released during myocardial wall stress and/or ischemia and are strong predictors for postoperative cardiovascular complications.

Myocardial protection with histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate solution in comparison with hypothermic hyperkalemic blood solution in the correction of acyanotic congenital heart diseases

open access: yesAin Shams Journal of Anesthesiology, 2022
Background Intraoperative myocardial preservation is essential in pediatric cardiac surgeries. The combination of hypothermia and hyperkalemic cardioplegia is commonly used.

An assessment of crystalloid solutions for donor heart preservation

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1991
The optimal technique for donor heart protection remains controversial. One component of preservation is the transport solution. Although saline solution is most frequently used as a transport medium, other crystalloid solutions may be superior. Accordingly, human right atrial trabeculae contracting isometrically in vitro were used to assess five ...

Effect of single-dose crystalloid cardioplegic agent compared to bloody cardioplegic agent in cardiac surgery in children with Tetralogy of Fallot [PDF]

open access: yesARYA Atherosclerosis, 2020
BACKGROUND: Cardioplegia is one of the main post-operative cardiac protective factors widely used in recent decades in the form of crystalloid (St. Thomas) and bloody solutions [del Nido (DN)].

Cheek tooth extraction in geriatric versus non‐geriatric horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Age‐related dental changes are major contributors to dental disorders in older horses, and cheek tooth extractions are often required to maintain masticatory function and oral comfort. However, limited information is available on clinical and treatment characteristics in this older patient population.
