509 Pilot Projects as Catalysts for Research Initiatives
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Pilot grants are small financial investments given out by CTSA hubs to facilitate new clinical and translational research projects. The New Jersey Alliance of Clinical and Translational Science (NJ ACTS) is one of 65 CTSA hubs. The goal

Galactosialidosis: review and analysis of CTSA gene mutations [PDF]
Abstract Background Mutations in the CTSA gene, that encodes the protective protein/cathepsin A or PPCA, lead to the secondary deficiency of β-galactosidase (GLB1) and neuraminidase 1 (NEU1), causing the lysosomal storage disorder galactosialidosis (GS).

Concept Mapping to Develop a Framework for Characterizing Electronic Data Capture (EDC) Systems [PDF]
CTSAs have brought about a push to find better EDC systems, which facilitate translational research. Based on the data management needs of a specific clinical/translational research lab, concept mapping was used to create a framework to evaluate EDCs ...

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Musical Worlds and the Extended Mind [PDF]
“4E” approaches in cognitive science see mind as embodied, embedded, enacted, and extended. They observe that we routinely “offload” part of our thinking onto body and world.

Orchestrated Session Compliance [PDF]
We investigate the notion of orchestrated compliance for client/server interactions in the context of session contracts. Devising the notion of orchestrator in such a context makes it possible to have orchestrators with unbounded buffering capabilities ...
