Modelling alternative management strategies of invasive tree species at the expansion front: Ligustrum lucidum as a case study

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 6, Issue 1, January–March 2025.
The management of invasive non‐native species is a global challenge, particularly for long‐lived trees. Individual‐based models (IBMs) and expert knowledge are valuable tools for evaluating different strategies to control the population dynamics and range expansion of invasive species.

A beautifully preserved comma shrimp (Pancrustacea: Peracarida) from the Plio‐Pleistocene of Japan and the fossil record of crown Cumacea

open access: yesInvertebrate Biology, Volume 143, Issue 3, September 2024.
Abstract Comma shrimp, or cumaceans, are diverse benthic crustaceans, yet they are one of the groups with the poorest fossil record, hindering our understanding of the evolution of the group in deep time. Here, we describe a new species of fossil comma shrimp, Makrokylindrus itoi sp. nov., from the Plio‐Pleistocene of Japan.

The ephemeral microbiota: Ecological context and environmental variability drive the body surface microbiota composition of Magellanic penguins across subantarctic breeding colonies

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 33, Issue 17, September 2024.
Abstract Environmental microbes routinely colonize wildlife body surface microbiota. However, animals experience dynamic environmental shifts throughout their daily routine. Yet, the effect of ecological shifts in wildlife body surface microbiota has been poorly explored.

How the Sima de los Huesos was won

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 307, Issue 7, Page 2225-2245, July 2024.
Abstract Although the first discovery of a human fossil in the Sima de los Huesos took place in 1976, systematic excavations did not begin there until 1984. Since then, this site has been continuously excavated in month‐long camps. The site is dated by different radiometric techniques to between 430,000 and 300,000 years ago.
