Absorption Spectrum of Er3 + Ions in Cubic Zirconia
Physica Status Solidi (a), 1972Yttria-stabilized zirconia crystals doped with Er3+ ions were prepared from the melt using a large solar furnace. In order to investigate the oxygen ion coordination around Y3+ ion using Er3+ ion as a probe, the absorption spectra of the crystals were measured in the spectral region 30000 to 4000 cm−1.

Theoretical investigation of nitrogen substitution in cubic zirconia
Physical Review B, 2007Nitrogen substitution of oxygen ions in cubic zirconia was studied theoretically at density functional level. Nitrogen contents of 12.5 and $3.1%$ were studied with ${\mathrm{Zr}}_{8}{\mathrm{O}}_{16\ensuremath{-}m}{\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ and ${\mathrm{Zr}}_{32}{\mathrm{O}}_{64\ensuremath{-}m}{\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ supercells.
