Ultrahigh Strength with Suppressed Flow Instability at Liquid Helium Temperature via Coherent Nanoprecipitation in a Medium‐Entropy Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 10, 2 February 2026.
It is demonstrated that severe lattice distortion and coherent nanoprecipitates overcome the strength–ductility dilemma and mitigate discontinuous plastic flow (DPF) at 4.2 K. Such microstructural design enhances both thermal and athermal stress components, leading to exceptional mechanical performance.

Ultrafast high‐temperature sintering of dental grade 4YSZ ceramics: Effects on microstructure and flexural strength

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, Volume 23, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract This study compares the effects of ultrafast high‐temperature sintering (UHS) and conventional sintering on the microstructural and mechanical properties of 4 mol% yttria‐stabilized zirconia, a ceramic widely used in dental restorations for its high strength, biocompatibility, and aesthetic qualities.

Heat Capacity Measurements and Thermodynamic Assessment of the Y2O3–Ta2O5 System

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Phase equilibria in the Y2O3–Ta2O5 system play an important role in the development of new materials for thermal barrier coating (TBC) applications, with higher thermal stability resulting in more efficient gas turbines with reduced exhaust gas emissions.

Thermo-elastic micromechanical modeling of tetragonal ZrO2 with a herringbone microstructure inherited from the cubic phase

open access: yesMaterials & Design
The distribution of residual stresses at the crystal scale is investigated in several random polycrystalline aggregates of zirconia. The underlying stochastic model generates tetragonal crystals forming three-dimensional herringbone microstructures ...
