Low Temperature Stability of Cubic Zirconia

physica status solidi (a), 2000
A 9 mol% Y 2 O 3 -stabilized ZrO 2 specimen was annealed in boiling water for 1200 h, and the phase structure was examined by XRD and the chemical states of zirconium, yttrium and oxygen were examined by XPS. After annealing, the phase of the specimen remains entirely cubic, and the chemical states of the elements are not remarkably changed ...

Electronic structure of cubic and tetragonal zirconia

Physical Review B, 1991
The electronic structure of tetragonal zirconia with {ital D}{sub 4{ital h}}{sup 15} symmetry is investigated using density-functional theory. The Kohn-Sham equations are solved by applying the full-potential linearized augmented-plane-wave method.

Defect-induced hyper-Raman spectra in cubic zirconia

Physical Review B, 1986
Hyper-Raman scattering of cubic zirconia and ${\mathrm{CaF}}_{2}$ is measured at room temperature. For a ${\mathrm{CaF}}_{2}$ crystal, the frequencies of the TO and LO modes with ${T}_{1u}$ symmetry are determined to be 260 and 480 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$, which are in good accord with the results of infrared measurements.

Three-dimensional microstructural characterization of porous cubic zirconia

Micron, 2015
A set of cubic zirconia samples were investigated using 3-dimensional electron backscatter diffraction (3D EBSD) to analyze the grain structure, grain boundary networks and pore morphology. 3D EBSD is a variation of conventional EBSD, whereby a focused ion beam (FIB) is used in a dual beam scanning electron microscope (SEM) i.e.

Photoactivation of hole centers in cubic stabilized zirconia

Physical Review B, 1996
Photoinduced changes of the concentration of paramagnetic and optical defects have been investigated in cubic stabilized zirconia single crystals by means of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). Results are reported confirming the presence of photobleaching of the optical and EPR ${\mathrm{Zr}}^{3+}$ electron centers (T centers) in x-ray-irradiated ...

Phase stabilization in nitrogen-implanted nanocrystalline cubic zirconia

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2011
The phase stability of nanocrystallites with metastable crystal structures under ambient conditions is usually attributed to their small grain size. It remains a challenging problem to maintain such phase integrity of these nanomaterials when their crystallite sizes become larger.

Interface Structure of an Epitaxial Cubic Ceria Film on Cubic Zirconia

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2003
A cubic CeO 2 (001) film with a thickness of ∼58 nm was grown epitaxially on Y 2 O 3 ‐stablized cubic ZrO 2 by oxygen‐plasma‐assisted molecular‐beam epitaxy (OPA‐MBE).

Stabilization of cubic zirconia by carbon nanotubes

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2004
Abstract Liquid–liquid two-phase method was used for fabricating Zirconia (ZrO 2 ) nanoparticles, sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinite (AOT) surfactant and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were added into the solution. It has been shown that CNTs acted as the medium during the drying and burning process, which was very important to the formation of ZrO 2 ...

Modelling the Interatomic Potential of Cubic Zirconia

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
Molecular modelling methods were used to investigate the structural and interatomic potential of bulk cubic zirconia. To widen the scope of the expected outcome, GULP and CASTEP software were used based on the concept of minimizing the energy of the crystal structure with respect to atomic coordinates.

Solubility of Mn stabilized cubic zirconia nanostructures

Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Electronics, 2013
Mn-stabilized cubic zirconia nanostructures (Zr1−xMnxO2, x = 0.10, x = 0.15 and x = 0.20) have been prepared using chemical precipitation method for different doping concentrations. The prepared powders have been characterized by X-ray diffractometer for structural analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer for analyzing magnetic properties, scanning ...
