Ability of cubic zirconia to accommodate radiation damage

Scripta Materialia, 2010
Cubic zirconia irradiated with medium-energy heavy ions exhibits a three-step damage build-up. Each step is characterized by radiation-defect reorganization that occurs to lower the system energy. The last step at high irradiation fluence is characterized by a quite unusual decrease in the damage fraction, during which the formation of defect-depleted ...

Theoretical investigation of nitrogen substitution in cubic zirconia

Physical Review B, 2007
Nitrogen substitution of oxygen ions in cubic zirconia was studied theoretically at density functional level. Nitrogen contents of 12.5 and $3.1%$ were studied with ${\mathrm{Zr}}_{8}{\mathrm{O}}_{16\ensuremath{-}m}{\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ and ${\mathrm{Zr}}_{32}{\mathrm{O}}_{64\ensuremath{-}m}{\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ supercells.

The relaxation dispersion of the ionic conductivity in cubic zirconias

Solid State Ionics, 1994
Abstract The relaxation dispersion of the bulk ionic conductivity of cubic zirconias stabilized with yttria, calcia and magnesia has been investigated between 450 and 1200 K at frequencies ranging from 20 Hz to 1.2 GHz. The relaxation process is attributed to the diffusional polarization due to the short-range oxygen vacancy jumping in the crystal ...

Defect-induced hyper-Raman spectra in cubic zirconia

Physical Review B, 1986
Hyper-Raman scattering of cubic zirconia and ${\mathrm{CaF}}_{2}$ is measured at room temperature. For a ${\mathrm{CaF}}_{2}$ crystal, the frequencies of the TO and LO modes with ${T}_{1u}$ symmetry are determined to be 260 and 480 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$, which are in good accord with the results of infrared measurements.

Temperature dependence of Raman scattering in stabilized cubic zirconia

Physical Review B, 1995
The temperature dependence of Raman spectra of cubic yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) for three yttria concentrations (10, 15, and 20 wt %) is investigated in the range 40--1470 K. The variation of the spectra with temperature implies that first-order scattering (one-phonon processes) is dominant in this material, providing further evidence that the ...
