Signs of compliance: Message framing influences outdoor recreationists' responses to conservation requests

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Natural landscapes shared by people and wildlife often rely on signage to guide people towards behaviours that protect nature, where the justification and framing of these requests may influence how people interpret and respond to them. We conducted a factorial vignette experiment with 600 frequent outdoor recreationists living in Scotland ...

Better concentration of cue-lure and sticky trap combination for monitoring and mass trapping of melon fly, Zeugodacus cucurbitae (Coquillett)

open access: yesPlant Science Today
Fruit fly species (family: Tephritidae) are a major pest of cucurbits, leading to a significant reduction in the crop yields. Among all species infesting cucurbits, Zeugodacus cucurbitae is the major pest. Both monitoring and mass trapping of Z. cucurbitae heavily rely on ‘male annihilation technique, using cue-lure (CL) male attractant-based traps ...

Impacts of Fermi Level Pinning at Hole‐Selective Contacts in CdSeTe/CdTe Solar Cells

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
Experimental measurements and SCAPS simulations consistently demonstrate dark–light J–V non‐superposition in CdSeTe/CdTe solar cells. The results indicate that donor‐like interface states at the ZnTe/CdTe contact pin the Fermi level, thereby producing a parasitic built‐in voltage that accounts for the observed non‐superposition (take‐off) behavior ...

Chemical diversity and phylogenetic insights into Hawaiian ʻākia (Wikstroemia) species used in traditional fishing practices

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Traditional fishing with plant‐based piscicides is a global practice in decline, facing increasing restrictions. We investigated the chemical diversity of endemic Wikstroemia species historically used to stun or poison fish in Hawaiʻi. Using 1‐H‐NMR, principal component analysis, targeted HPLC, and target‐capture sequencing, we characterized compounds ...

Behavioural manipulation of the cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala L): Prospects for push–pull strategies in oilseed rape

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Behavioural manipulation of Psylliodes chrysocephala provides promising opportunities for sustainable pest management in oilseed rape systems. This review synthesises evidence on glucosinolates and their volatile isothiocyanate derivatives as phagostimulants and attractants, alongside the repellent or antifeedant effects of non‐host plants, plant ...

Evaluation of different concentrations of Cue-lure for effective management of the melon fruit fly, Zeugodacus cucurbitae (Coquillett), in cucurbits ecosystem

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Biology
Aim: To identify the effective concentration of Cue-lure (CL) for efficacious management of melon fruit fly (Zeugodacus cucurbitae), associated with the cucurbits. Methodology: Wooden blocks were soaked in different concentrations of Cue-lure (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%), installed in trap bottles along with commercially used McPhail traps baited with

Take flight: predation risk induces wing polyphenism and dispersal in the aphid Myzus persicae

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Predator risk above a critical density induces winged morphs in Myzus persicae, promoting dispersal and reducing predation compared with wingless aphids. This density‐dependent phenotypic plasticity enhances survival but may compromise biological control by facilitating aphid dispersal.

The functional role of ants in no‐till cropping systems

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Ants provide valuable ecosystem services in tropical agriculture, but their roles in temperate row crops remain poorly understood. Conservation practices such as no‐till farming and cover cropping support ant communities that contribute to pest suppression, weed seed removal, and soil quality, which can increase crop productivity.

Laboratory, simulated‐use, and field evaluation of non‐insecticidal consumer products for indoor pest management: a freeze‐spray aerosol, light traps, and an ‘insect repellent’ lamp

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Control efficacy of three types of non‐insecticidal consumer products were examined in laboratory, simulated‐use, and field conditions. Freeze spray and ‘repellent lamp’ showed limited efficacy, whereas various results in attraction in light trap were reported.
