Fitness benefits of alternated chick provisioning in cooperatively breeding carrion crows
In birds, parents typically raise their offspring together and can be assisted by helpers. Here, we show that carrion crow carers that take turns in feeding the brood produce healthier nestlings than those that do not. The payoff of cooperation therefore depends on the degree of coordination of group members.
