Anopheles darlingi (Diptera: Culicidae) in Panama [PDF]
We report Anopheles darlingi in Darien Province in eastern Panama. Polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism profiles of the single copy nuclear white gene and sequence comparisons confirmed the presence of 66 specimens of the northern lineage of An. darlingi.

Swarming and Mating in \u3ci\u3eAedes Provocans\u3c/i\u3e (Diptera: Culicidae) [PDF]
Male Aedes provocans formed canopy-level linear swarms in association with prominent trees along hedgerows or convex prominences along woodlot margins.

Factors Affecting Capture Rates of Insect Taxa by Retail Electrocutors and Eliminators in Northern Lower Michigan [PDF]
We compare the abundance and types of insects captured at several locations, with and without a chemical attractant and in varying weather conditions using two different devices advertised to kill biting insects.

Sequencing and analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of Culex gelidus (Diptera: Culicidae)
In this study, we sequenced and analyzed the complete mitochondrial genome of Culex gelidus. The mitogenome is 15,600 bp long, and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and a control region.

Efecto de la composición de la dieta sobre el desarrollo del mosquito de inundación Ochlerotatus (Ochletotatus) albifasciatus (Macquart) (Diptera: Culicidae) [PDF]
One important step for the colonization of Ochlerotatus albifasciatus (Macquart) is to determine the optimal conditions for larval rearing, which makes possible the development of experiments comprising larval rearing in the laboratory.

Amphicrossus japonicus is the first known facultatively aquatic nitidulid. The adult beetles breed in bamboo sap and subsequently enter water-filled bamboo culms. In water they breathe via a ventral air sheath held by hydrofuge pubescence.

Lack of Evidence for Natural Wolbachia Infections in Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)
Wolbachia is a genus of endosymbiotic bacteria that infects 66% of all insect species. Its major impact on insects is in reproduction: sterility, production of one sex, and/or parthenogenesis.

The effect of water turbidity on the near-surface water temperature of larval habitats of the malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae [PDF]
Water temperature is an important determinant in many aquatic biological processes, including the growth and development of malaria mosquito (Anopheles arabiensis and A. gambiae) immatures.
