A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

An extensive re-evaluation of evidence and analyses of the Randomised Badger Culling Trial (RBCT) I: Within proactive culling areas

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science
Here, in the first of two investigations, we evaluate and extend the analyses of the Randomised Badger Culling Trial (RBCT) to estimate the effectiveness of proactive badger culling for reducing incidence of tuberculosis (TB) in cattle within culling ...

Demographic consequences of translocation of overabundant Canada geese breeding in urban areas

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2017
Translocation is a common tool for managing nuisance Canada geese (Branta canadensis) in urban areas across North America. However, no previous research has assessed how translocation affects survival and philopatry at donor and release sites.

The Microbiota Shapes Central Nervous System Myelination in Early Life

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gut microbiota shapes brain development by regulating myelination and glial cell maturation in early life. Using germ‐free (GF) mice and zebrafish, this study reveals sex‐ and age‐dependent effects on myelin growth, integrity, and related gene expression.

An extensive re-evaluation of evidence and analyses of the Randomised Badger Culling Trial II: In neighbouring areas

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science
In the second investigation in a pair of analyses which re-evaluates the Randomised Badger Culling Trial (RBCT), we estimate the effects of proactive badger culling on the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) in cattle populations in unculled neighbouring ...

Multimodal Layer‐Crossing Interrogation of Brain Circuits Enabled by Microfluidic Axialtrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study introduces a flexible microfluidic axialtrode that integrates optical, electrical, and chemical modalities within a single polymer fiber. By redistributing electrodes and fluidic channels along the fiber axis via angled cleaving, it enables simultaneous optogenetic stimulation, electrophysiological recording, and drug delivery across brain ...

Comparison of the longevity and lifetime performance of Scottish Blackface ewes and their crosses within hill sheep flocks

open access: yesAnimal, 2011
A study was undertaken to compare the longevity and lifetime lamb output of purebred Scottish Blackface (BF) ewes with a range of crossbred genotypes from Scottish BF dams. For up to five successive breeding seasons, 1143 Scottish BF, Swaledale × BF (SW ×
