In February 1993, 76 federal agents raided the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. After a 51-day siege, more than 80 members died. In March 1995, a poison gas attack that occurred in a Tokyo subway and killed 12 people was attributed to the controversial Japanese religious group AUM Shinrikyo.
