Optimized Land–Water Management Expands Afforestation Potential Under Land and Human Water‐Use Constraints

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human water demand constrains China's feasible afforestation potential more strongly than is commonly recognized, and future climate change further intensifies this limitation. Integrating land‐use optimization with water‐saving measures substantially expands feasible afforestation area and associated carbon sinks, revealing a practical pathway to ...

Research on the enhancement material and culture method of soil aggregates composed of feldspathic sandstone and sand

open access: yesScientific Reports
The Mu Us Sandy Land is a region characterized by wind-blown sand and soil erosion in northern China. To enhance the soil quality of this area, various organic materials were incorporated into the mixed soil at a volume ratio of 1:2 for feldspathic ...

Soil Physicochemical Properties Differentially Drive Rice and Maize Yields Across Northeast China’s Black Soil Region

open access: yesAgriculture
Northeast China’s black soil region serves as a critical cornerstone of national food security, yet accelerating soil degradation, characterized by declining soil organic matter (SOM) and rising bulk density (BD), threatens the productive capacity of its

How Video‐Based Information Affects Farmers' Willingness to Pay for Drone Services

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Professional service for digital technology like agricultural drones lowers transaction costs and scope thresholds for smallholders. Meanwhile, perceptual adoption barriers remain underexplored. We conduct a two‐stage choice experiment with a randomized video‐based information treatment among 384 Chinese crop farmers to measure its effect on ...

Hemp Cultivation and Crop Diversification: Implications for Ecosystem Services in Kentucky

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the ecosystem benefits of expanding hemp cultivation by assessing its impact on crop diversity. Using scenario‐based simulations and fixed‐effect panel regressions with county‐level data in Kentucky, we find that increased hemp acreage tends to enhance crop diversity, improving water quality and bird diversity.

A Meta-Analysis of the Effects of Increased Planting Density on Maize Yield in Northeast China

open access: yesPlants
Increasing maize planting density is considered as a potential strategy for enhancing grain yield in Northeast China; however, its yield-enhancing effects and underlying regulatory mechanisms remain inadequately characterized.

Farmers' Preferences for Gene Editing Crops and Influencing Factors

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gene editing (GE) is gaining momentum worldwide, but limited data on UK farmers' preferences hinders our understanding of its potential impact amid deregulation debates. Based on a survey of 200 English arable farmers, we employ a Latent Class Analysis and Multinomial Logit regressions to investigate current preferences for GE crops.

Diagnosis of ecological security and the spatial heterogeneity of its driving factors in the mining-impacted watershed, based on ecosystem health-risk-services framework

open access: yesEcological Indicators
A comprehensive diagnosis of ecological security (ES) and its driving mechanisms in the watershed under mining influence is essential for the conservation and restoration of watershed ecosystems.

Differentiated Impacts of EU Rural Development Measures: A Finite Mixture Evaluation of Italian Olive Farms

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines the relationship between participation in the EU Rural Development Program and the economic performance of Italian olive farms using a finite‐mixture model with inverse‐probability‐weighted regression adjustment. Based on 2010–2022 FADN panel data, it estimates heterogeneous treatment effects while correcting for selection ...

Soil nutrients and enzyme activities based on millet continuous cropping obstacles

open access: yesScientific Reports
In order to evaluate the effects of continuous cropping of millet on soil nutrients and soil enzyme activities, the present study was based on four treatments of 2 years of continuous cropping (T1), 3 years of continuous cropping (T2), 4 years of ...
