Where were all the trees? Computer vision meets landscape history to unlock the potential of historical Ordnance Survey maps

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract The first edition of the Ordnance Survey's 1:2500 County Series is marked with treed areas, such as woodlands and orchards, and, remarkably, freestanding trees. Consequently, it is an unparalleled source of information on the distribution of trees across Britain in the mid‐late nineteenth century, when the maps were first surveyed. In order to

SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, restores pyrethroid efficacy against cabbage stem flea beetle but negatively impacts its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, inhibited key metabolic pathways associated with pyrethroid insecticide resistance in cabbage stem flea beetle (CSFB) and its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae. SYN‐A restored pyrethroid efficacy against resistant CSFB allowing up to 80% reduction in application rates.

Comprehensive analysis of microtubule‐inhibiting herbicides reveals shared subcellular phenotypes and distinct resistance profiles

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Using cellular phenotyping and resistance profiling, we show that herbicides across the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee (HRAC) Groups 3 and 23 induce indistinguishable, dose‐dependent microtubule defects. Resistance patterns, rather than cellular phenotypes, reveal distinct sites of action and support reclassifying Group 3 as α‐tubulin binders ...
