Soil wetting and drying processes influence stone artefact distribution in clay‐rich soils: A case study from Middle Gidley Island in Murujuga, northwest Western Australia

Abstract Soils that contain swelling clay minerals (e.g., montmorillonite) expand and contract during wetting and drying, causing movement within the soil profile. This process, known as argilliturbation, can alter artefact distributions, destroy stratigraphy and complicate the interpretation of archaeological deposits.

Interpretation of the cultural layer of the early Trypillian site of Bernashevka I

Bernshevka I is located SW of the same name village, on the bank of the Dniester River. It was explored by V. Zbenovich in 1969-1975 (1000 м², remains of 7 houses) and D. Chornovol in 2009 and 2013-15 (2000 м², remains of 9 houses and 3 pits).
