The Physical Cost of a Complete Substitution of Fossil Fuels

open access: yesEnergies
Proposals for the complete substitution of fossil fuels have become central to energy policy debates. However, historical data show that global primary energy consumption has grown approximately linearly since the 1950s, with changes in the energy mix ...

Analysing the cumulative energy demand of external bearing walls

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
Abstract The assessment of environmental properties of buildings is now commonly using a life cycle analysis (LCA). Due to the rapidly evolving construction industry, LCA research is carried out in many areas, from building materials and components to overall building system.

Climate mitigation scenarios with persistent COVID-19-related energy demand changes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic caused radical temporary breaks with past energy use trends. How post-pandemic recovery will impact the longer-term energy transition is unclear.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Renewable energy integration for lower emission planning and achieving regional energy independence: study in Yogyakarta [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
We propose and try to find a model renewable energy integration for lower emission and achieving regional energy independence. The research uses three stages. First, building an energy system model, to analyze the impact of implementing energy efficiency

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Energy Demand in Surface Soils for Earthquake Engineering by Vertical Array Strong Motion Records

open access: yesGeosciences, 2022
In earthquake engineering, acceleration has played a major role, while wave energy has rarely been considered as a demand in design. In order to understand earthquake damage mechanism in terms of energy, the demand in terms of wave energy in surface soil

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
